call suzistore on your mobile, get shaun to hear it over the phone - he'd be able to tell you pretty quick if its normal =)

yeah I'll do that when I get a chance. I actually took the starter in to him and we compared it next to another vitara starter he had... they looked identical except for the amount of teeth on them, but the gap between the teeth is the same so he said it shouldn't make a difference.

Could that be how the first ring gear got flogged out?

There are two different fly wheels, a stepped one and a flat one. I'm not sure if the step effects how far out the ring gear sits but if it did that might be something to think about.

Does it start the car??? :P

i pulled mine down & could find NO meshing at all, no mark's from misalignment, no damage at all.. (apart from mud..)

If it work's I'd be inclined to use it.. :P

starts the car perfectly and in the morning when it's cold and cranks for a bit longer you can hear its definitely a reduction unit. I'm inclined to agree with you on just using it as is, because it's going to cause more hassle than its worth to figure out anyway... time will tell if its working correctly!

I've just figured mine out. Same noise as above video posted. Problem was a grounding issue, Make sure you have the ground cable directly on the starter motor.

Mine makes exactly the same sound :P

If you wan't to take it apart to check the internals it's pretty easy. Have a look here --> viewtopic.php?f=5&t=28385&hilit=starter
