After peoples opinions on tyre choice taking into consideration most of my 4wding will be places like toolangi, warburton, big river, howqua etc. etc.

I will be looking for something around the 33-35" mark.

So far I am thinking along the lines of Simex ET's or JT's, Baja claws, Silverstone MT-117 extreme and TSL swampers.

I know the Simex's are a great tyre

Hear the Claws clog up and offer little sideways grip when on side slopes

Dunno how the Silverstone's compare to the Simex, I know they are a bit softer.

I know very little about the swampers, they look like an awesome tread pattern. Where is the best place to buy them? what are they like?

So if anyone can shed any light on any of these tyres it would be much appreciated.

I want to drive over anything that gets in my way, but most of the places I go are pretty much all mud.

Car is only driven on weekends to go 4x4ing. The only bitumen work it does is too and from the bush.

mud = mudzillas thats what i got. not great wear life as there bias ply. but there superstrong and super grippy esp in mud i can just crawl effortlessly through mud where as everyone else with there big horns and bfs have to have some speed....

not concerned whatsoever about tyre life as the car does sweet FA on road. Just want the best tyre i can get for the conditions i drive in. Price is a factor but not the be all and end all.

i havent run any of the other brands you mentioned - but my simex's were simply unreal in mud... i crawled tons of stuff in 2wd with them where others were in 4wd and revving the hell out of it.

pretty sure interco are having supply issues, you might not be able to get swampers right now?

I've had a few sets of the MT-117 extremes both on my Landrover and now also on my Zook which is also just a weekend car also, that said with the exception of the noise on the blacktop they drive OK.

I love these tyres and for the money you'd be hard pressed to beat them.

I've had mickey thompson claws, simex jungle trekkers and now i'm running silverstone extremes. The claws were crap, the simex's were pretty good, but the silverstones are awesome in the mud! For me it all came down to price, as the silverstones are cheap and good value for money compared to simex's or swampers and they are a really aggressive tyre...

i don't know for sure, but the internet banter suggests that the extremes are a softer rubber compound... but i don't think theres much in it really... either tyre would be awesome in the mud... the thing about simex's is that they are generally an inch bigger than the nominate tyre size and that silverstones are only available in limited sizes... my zook is alot happier on the silverstones, cos they are an inch smaller in diameter and width...

What size are you running and with what gearing and motor.

I have 1.6 efi and 6.5:1 transfer gears so I think I will be happy turning any size.

I'm running 1.6 efi with stock transfer and 5.1 diff gears. The smaller tyres i'm running now just means the engine doesn't have to shift so much rubber, and it's alot easier on the steering as well. You've gotta think about COG as well. With a sprung over zook on stock diffs, it tends to want to lay over for a nap very easily... So for me, the 33 silverstone's work well...

Yeah I just removed the 2" extended shackles and replaced them with stock, so now want to change the 35's to something more aggressive and fractionally smaller.

I have noticed how tippy my car feels on side slopes. so looking forward to having a go in the bush with a lower COG.

My vote goes to the mt117's for budget or swampers if money is no issue. I'm pretty certain dank has run both?

Yep have run both. The extremes are awesome in the mud..can't beat them. for the price difference the simex isn't even a consideration, don't even bother.

Swampers are also nice either the skinny SS or the LTB are good for zooks and are around 33-34 inch.

If you want a true 35 then look to something like a Q78 Swamper. These are around $480 a tyre and I can supply them.

based on was an narbethong before the fires, greezy hill climb, 2 GQ's 1 with 35 simex et2's 1 with 35 claws. the simex car we didnt notice that the hill was hard and just kept going the car in the claws was nearly finished winching when we had turned back after not hearing from him at the next steepish area.


maybe things are a bit different on light cars but i think silverstone / simex are amazing, ive seen boggers on an 80 series and i found you didnt have any side traction ( if that makes sense. e.g side angles where difficult )

and i have no experience with TSL type tires other than they look hot and i wish they made em in 215/75r15

tsl's are so far the best tire i have run on any of my zooks... only done a few trip and been plaged with rolling tires off rims... BUT they work... amazinly (for tassie conditions)

however i think the silverstones would be equaly as good... and for the price.. GO THEM!

a very good mate of mine has 33" mudzilla's bought new, now I can drive up things on my swampers he only dreams about getting up and we both have very similar speced zooks. Ive even tried them on my rig at pressures down to 5 psi and they are crap compared to simex or swamper patterns.
they clogg badly in vic clay mud and then you have 33x13" balls of slippery shit

Mongerel recap sinex type pattern performs better than mudzilla's.
and no I'm not anti maxxis as a general rule they make exellent tyres and I run their stuff on all my work cars

You cant go past the Silverstone Extreme's on a Suzuki, as long as you dont mind a bit of vibration for the first few k's after it has been parked on them for a while But thats just about any bias ply tyre. If you only drive it on the weekends then put it on jackstands during the week..I've driven just about every offroad tyre on the market (admittedly not all were on a Suzuki) and mostly off road ,and on a Suzuki i cant think of a better tyre.

my simex get flat spots too, even just overnight... if i dont drive it for a day on the weekend i just roll it forward or backward a metre on the driveway at the end of the day so the flat spot isnt so bad the next =)

I got extremes on my sierra and i often out wheel simmilar or better zooks with different tyres. but extremes suck in the snow.

very strong side wall so less chance of puntures.
awesome in the mud, especially a zook on 35s.
but kinda pricy.
swampers are a good tire to, but they have a pretty soft side wall from what i have learnt,
and from the fead back we get.

I dont know of any body having a punture on a Suzuki no matter what tyres they run, not to say it wont happen, yet the two beads I have rolled off were both on my swamper sx's..

the thing i like about the silverstones is they don't chip. mine are nearly worn
out and i only have damage on one lug on one tyre.
awusome traction on most surfaces and wear ok, i have done around 30,000 on mine.

Agreed, mudzillas aren't even on the cards. Already got creepy's but need something thats gonna self clean and grip in the vic mud.
