I have been looking at throwing some extras on my 2007 V6 GV and wanted to know if putting a snorkel on would be worth it? (Fuel econ, water crossings, addition power)

Are Ironman suspension kits decent?

Has anyone got either on their 4x4's?

Obviously not so bad then

Was looking for a bit of extra ground clearance as most of the offroad tracks in the Darwin/Kakadu/Katherine area get pretty washed out and ground clearance at front and rear is often an issue! hopefully tthe 35mm makes a difference.

Ive got the ironman kit in the wifes 2008 GV and it does drive nicer on the road but one strut has dveloped a clunk.... They are going to sus it out as soon as i can get them the car on a day off.


It lifted it a tad over 40mm as ours is only a 2.4Ltr 4cly.


Wife wont allow a snorkel so i cant comment on those.

hope i dont get the same issue, but im sure its a one off.
i only have 18,000km on this one so was waiting for the suspension to go before upgrading, but with the short distances travelled, it will take forever.
once we move back to Sydney ill be able to justify more mods to hopefully go with more time to get off road.

Ours only has 22,500kms on it. Was funny on the long weekend as i took it up the high country. drove up to one of the huts and had lunch and after we got there about 7 big lifted cruisers and patrols turned up. as the walked past the GV the group stopped and just stood behind it scratching their heads......The first blokle to walk into the hut asked me "who Drives the Suzuki?"...." Fark wouldn't have thought that thing would make it up here."

I was still on the road slicks and at full PSI...Gotta love traction control in lowrange.

haha, I bet they hated that! But I have always heard people say they are good little rigs.
The road slicks I had on mine got 17,000km on them before they were no good. And that was when the car was my wifes and it never left the bitumen. RUBBISH. Threw some Maxxis A/T on it not long ago and they seem pretty good.
Been in a few sticky spots up here in NT crossing water in it. Trouble is you cant check the depth up here as there are crocs waiting for you and the wet season pretty much shuts out most of the roads anywhere out of Darwin City.

They (inmo) NEED a snorkel. I have 'drowned' my GV (without damage fortunately) and the next additional to my 04 GV is a snorkel.The guy who works on my car reckons you would get an increase in performance as it provides more airflow. He has also suggested extractors and exhaust due to the severe restrictions that the have (my vehicle has had a run on his dyno)
My GV has Bilsteins shocks and Dobinson springs. I cant speak highly enough of this setup and the on and off road performance is exceptional.
I run 235x70x16 GT All-Terrain Radials that are completely and utterly dangerous on the tar in wet weather. So much so that the missus nearly wrote it off (and should have been!) when the back end of the car spun out from underneath her. I too have had 'experiences' in the car in the wet and others have commented on it's lack of grip in we weather.
I have recently fitted front slotted rotors and braided brake lines. The difference it has made in braking is noticeable and worth the investment.
I have just had to replaced both rear wheel bearings at 104,000 as they where both rooted. This also goes with front left wheel bearing and endless other probs I have had with the car.
But it drives well on road and with the mods I have made is quite a capable care. Just a question on reliability.

The 04 Gv is a completely different car to the 07. Your 04 will be a rear drive with part time 4wd. Ours are full time 4wd with high and low center lock with ESP and traction control.

Mine is a base model 2.4 and it is standard. maybe it was an option on the first lot released. all 5 door models we looked at had it.

i have a 2.7 in the current shape. Few cosmetic differences though. Has 4H - 4H Lock and 4L Lock. Havent pushed it too hard yet, but has always kept me outta trouble.
I heard the Snorkel as well as extractors and exhaust would help with power and economy. What kind of price were you looking at for the both of them?
Are petrols more prone to stalling in water than diesels?

Can't do that unless you run separate cat's further down & reposition the 4 O2 sensor's....

Snorkel is a good idea, the pos of the std love's to suck sand & water in..

sounds like the snorkel alone will be getting fitted then. Is it much work for them to relocate the O2 sensor's? I guess ill have to ask them how much power/benefit I would look to get from doing it to see if it is worthwhile.

My brother has the same car but 06 model and his sucked up some sand and overheated at stockton beach earlier this year. Needs a snorkel also.

there seems to be more mods for the Sierra than the newer GV's..

If you're going wading with an '06 or later, you might want to check the diff & transmission breathers - the front diff breather on the one I looked at is about four inches of hose over the diff itself.

Not all, that was an option..

I don't even think it was an option back then. My thoughts are that traction control was the 05 model and ESP was 06.
I know that when I bought my GV (new)that these options where not available.

I don't even think it was an option back then. My thoughts are that traction control was the 05 model and ESP was 06.
I know that when I bought my GV (new)that these options where not available.

ESP and traction control were standar when they did the minor facelift in mid 2008. befor that it was an option that most got. The first of the new shape only had this as an option on the V6 models ...i think.

Ive got a late 08 model and it has ESP but cant turn it off until i go into low which sucks for beach driving . Always thought ESP and traction control were the same thing
