Hi, I am new to the forum and a complete noob when it comes to suzuki's, but I have recently purchased a 2000 Grand Vitara and I need a little bit of guidance before I go taking it to the mechanic to get it checked out properly.

I have had the car for about 2 weeks and it seems to have been running pretty sweet, it has alot of kays on it for it age (230k) but it seemed fairly well maintained. Anyhoo, I took it out in the sticks the other day and it was all good when I got back, however I took it out again just yesterday for some fairly light offroading and then when I moved it this morning I found that it has been leaking some oil (a patch about 20cm in diameter overnight).

Please excuse my lack of mechanical knowledge, but from what I can gather, the oil is coming from a small square hole at the end of the gearbox where it mates to the engine, more reading on the net had me thinking that the rear main seal would be the cause of the leak??? What is this little square hole for, just a drainage hole or something?? I am just trying to get a rough idea of the problem before i go and take it to a mechanic who might try and tell me some other bs about it all, roughly what would I expect to pay to have it replaced?.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions of a good suzuki specific mechanic in the Penrith area that would also be great.

I have taken a photo of the leak but i havent been able to work out how to put it in the forum.

Thanks in advance.

by the sounds of it the rear main seal has failed, might be worth putting a clutch in it while it's apart.
