The passenger windscreen wiper has rusted/fallen through the windscreen sill on my 1992 SJ70. With all this rainy weather its a little hard to drive around.

I have seen some people who have had a metal plate put undernearth each wiper unit.

Was wondering if anyone would know where I can go get a sexy strip of something fitted right along the front so that both windscreen wipers are fixed in the one hit?

Maybe some galvanised checkplate or something welded on?

Does anyone do this sort of stuff around Brisbane / Ipswich?

I fixed one of these just yesterday. The drivers side won't crack out.

Any chance of a pic? I could probably fab up another brace before the weekend.

I certainly can .. just getting the wifey to dig the camera out for me.

I've seen them before with the one side done .. I was sort of thinking a length that fits along the rubber seal?

Maybe 3/4 or full length gal checker plate ... just so it looks nice and not out of place and looks a little sexy.

Thanks for any help

Sorry bloke but there is nothin at all sexy about Gal checkerplate :gross: Or checkerplate in general.

Gal checker will rust where it has been cut or drilled. Zinc plated would look nicer, but there is no way that will get dipped before xmas now. My last order went in yesterday and I was told I would be lucky to see it again in 2010

Besides, its going to be near impossible to get the rubber grommet on the wiper spline to seal against the undulating surface of the checker plate.

I'll get a pic of the plate I made yesterday. I used 2mm brushed stainless. Looks great! and won't rust.

I could probably do a 3/4 length one if you want, but its really just a waste of material and time IMO. But you're the customer

I've had a look online at the brushed stainless online ... looks pretty good, you are 100% correct.

I'm loving the idea ... yeah, the 3/4 length sounds great.

Sorry for the crappy pic :? But you get the idea.

Thats 2mm brushed stainless.....

Image

It actually tucks up under the seal so water doesn't run down into the window frame.
