I have doubts about how strong they are because i've never heard of anyone that uses them for rockcrawling. Maybe they are just ok for big tyres and general wheeling?

no doubt the axle would be stronger but how many people have snapped front axles at the inner spline?
wouldnt the axle still have to be the same size through the inner seal area anyway?
is it a bigger spline into the CV? so you would be stuck with using their CV's along with having less meat around the inner race?

check out sites like pirate and you'll see heaps of guys rock crawling with zook HD axles running 34"+ tyres. Im down in vic so run the mud slippery hills and rocks when I can find them and havent had a breakage yet. I broke 3 OEM cvs in 2 months on 31" silverstone extremes so didn't want to take my chances with 34s.

how do they comapare in size and so on (yes I'm too lazy to go look myself :wink) and can you use the CV on a stock axle and vice versa?

I'm a bit Hilux diff hater so all this is pretty interesting to me

same i like the lightness of zook bits. the cv and axles shaft come all together.

the hd cv is way bigger than standard. You need to take the knuckle off to fit into the diff housing. but i'll prob be the last time you have to do it! get them from the states, lowrangeoffroad offer good prices and shipping. I got mine from roadlessgear.com as they were cheaper at the time and lowrange weren't returning my emails. But I have bought off both companies and they are good to deal with.

using the cv alone on the stock axle will defeat the whole purpose of the HD setup. you buy a HD cv AND axles as one package. all you need to do is make sure you have a four pinion front 3rd member and run 26spline side gears or a rear locrite or airlocker.

I understand the reasoning over using them as a set but can they be swapped should you need to?
everything a lot tougher up here than vic and it would suck to be sidelined waiting for another one to come from the US if you couldnt bung something in the keep you going

HD Newfield axle shafts. pretty much the ones that Trail tough, roadlessgear, and lowrange sell are all the same product. Liam at BBM has some aussie made ones, and SPidertrax also have some. pretty much all the same thing.
