G'Day,

I've decided to bite the bullet and get a new exhaust system - extractors (Wildcat294), hiflo cat , pipe, muffler, well...everything.

My question is - is 2" inch diameter the way to go ?

Also, I've seen how a few of you have the wildcat294 extractors (on 2008 jimnys) - would you know if the 2010 jimny is any different ?

Thanks again,

Guy

2" is fine. Just make sure whoever is making it routes the whole thing above the bottom level of the chassis rails. Also make sure the system is 'tuned' well, there's nothing worse than a droning exhaust in a zook as they seem to exacerbate the noise.

Cheers. If they just follow the same route as the original exhaust should be above the chassis rails. But I'll see them today and make sure they do.

Make sure you definitely ask for this, i assumed the exhaust guy would follow the same route as the stock system, but he put a straight pipe under the while car.. probably my fault for assuming but yeah.. not happy.

i've i got a 2009 jimny with genine headers, going straight into the orignal cat, then a 2-inch system straight after the cat and seems to be good.

Make sure the headers have the EPG pipe if it is the M13a motor or you will get a warning light if it dose not have the small pipe.

All done.

You can definitely feel the difference... not power wise, but seems to be smoother - it's hard to explain. Haven't been for a proper drive yet. Got it done yesterday afternoon and drove home just before the mother of all storms hit.

Will go for a bit of a drive tomorrow.

Sounds great. Not loud.

I didn't realise the original manifold had a cat converter in it.

Cheers

Not with the Wildcat Genie extractors. They come with the connection.

You can see where the sensor connects at the bottom of the photo where they join into one pipe

I got the genine headers and they didn't out that small EPG pipe in so i kept on getting a engine light coming up so i drilled a hole in the last pipe, one in the flange, welded the pipe in and hasn't come up since.

I think the headers were $350 plus around $200 for the ceramic coating. Since I plan to keep my Jimny for a long time I thought the extra cost was worth it.

Thats were the EPG valve is, and what is dose is take readings from the senors and puts more oxygen into the system if need be. Thats why i had the engine light becasue it did not have engouh oxygen in the system and was saying the engine was putting out to much emmsions, or something like that.Image

Cool... the hiflo cat will make a big difference, you cant even see daylight thru a standard cat its so restricted... you will notice, that it will gradually feel even better, over time. not sure if the ECU adjusts to it, but after about 4 weeks, its a big improvement, and you dont have to push the go peddle so much anymore, to maintain the same speed... also, you may notice a slight drop in power under 3000rpm, but once you go over 3000rpm, it just takes off 8)
Exhaust is the one mod i do to every zook i own ! :D

Yeah, there may be a little drop in power below about 2,500rpm...I think - it's hard to tell.

The original cat looked really restrictive - as was the other cat in the manifold. And yeah, I've had people say the ECU adjusts (but then others say it doesn't)...so I don't know. One think though, it sounds like I ride the clutch more changing gears...really hard to explain...even though I'm not.

(and no engine warning light)

Cannington Performance Exhaust does not recommend high-flow catalytic converters for every vehicle. To place a high-flow catalytic converter on a small four cylinder (non turbo) car would be a total waste of effort and money. Your money would be better spent elsewhere on your vehicle.

I left my factory cat in and the power gain was still good.

Is the Wildcat a Tri-Y design, ie 4-2-1, or a straight 4-1? I can't quite tell.

Yep, a stock Cat is Very restrictive... your driving style may change a bit, mine did, to compensate for the slightly lower power, i like to keep the engine in the 3000rpm range, so i may hold a gear a bit longer, or change down more often... i think thats where the ECU adjusts, i was told, by someone in the know here in AZ, that the ECU remembers your driving style, drive like a granny, it will remember, drive it a bit sporty, it will remember... but, i think the fact that its not sucking in/recirculating burnt exhaust gases anymore, and has a nice clean flow, means it can run cleaner in the piston chamber, not sure if it cleans out all the carbon and the shit they stick in unleaded to replace lead, like Sulphur, but it just runs even better after a while... cant explain it... i just felt it...

I know what you mean about it sounding like you are riding the clutch, i have had a few people say, why am i riding the clutch, he he, the engine seems to hold the revs longer when changing gear, so it sounds like its riding the clutch, lol... :?

I partially agree with what they say... i think any 4cyl would benefit from a hiflo cat, but, some more than others... Zook engines, 4WD's and Swifts ect, are, in my opinion, a high/higher performance engine, and would definitely benefit with a hiflo cat, and they arnt turbo... my G16A did... but there are some engines i think would need a fair amount of restriction, to run well/properly... but to say putting a hiflo cat, on a non turbo 4cyl, is a waste of money, is IMO, just BS... :?

Well like it or not a cat converter has a life expectancy of 2-3 years. After that the catalysts are all but expended, so a new cat is better than a choked up old one. High flow or not.

Personally I don't see the point on changing the headers, and the complete system after the cat, only to leave a restriction n the middle. :?

Their may be a restriction but my cat has a diamiter of 2-inch's going in and out and you can see daylight clear as anything and my is not choked up with shit as the car has only done 4,500.

I have my new system in for 4weeks now and it dose feel more powerful like MacBear said.

8O are you sure that is that all they last for... if so, i would say that 90% of cars on the road have stuffed Catys then... i thought it was longer than that...
yep i agree, IMO, the stock cat is the main restriction in the system, i would always get a hiflo cat put on now... but i guess cost is why most people stay with stock catys, at $300+ for hiflo... but you sure can feel the difference between stock and hiflo...

Starting to drive my car a bit differently now - slightly higher revs, and what a difference. It's great.

Ha ha, i thought you might... Yeah you can really feel the difference... yep it is awesome !
Did you get much noise with yours ? I like holding the revs a bit longer, to get that growl... ha ha, i am sure people think i am reverting to my 20's again... oh well... makes driving better and more enjoyable !
