just wondering what tyre pressure you would use in different situations
atm i have 215/75*/15 (*i think) BFG a/t
what pressure should i use for dirt roads/gravel, mud/rocks, sand

well gravel/dirt roads i would really worry about airing down unless it got really soft ..

sand can be down to about 12 or so psi ..

and mud and rocks about 15 ta 10psi .. but alway make sure u have a way to air up from them sorta low presures as it can make for a scary drive on the black top lol

that just how i used to work with my sierra .. so may be a bit different for ur vit

yeah pretty much what buz said. when u do need to go down, start around the 15psi mark and if u still can get to ur location drop down to 10-12. if ur down on the beach and it gets really boggy and still cant get through with them at 10, go down to 7-8, but i wouldnt go much lower than that.

just have a play with them and see how u go.

my tires were at like 30psi from when i bought it , so im guessing that was why.

i use between 3 and 7 psi for dirt and 14psi for highway.

30 psi damn .. i used to have mine at a bout 25 psi for on road use .. (but again was a sierra) if ur doing some simple offroading simple sorta rutted track bit or mud just drop to about 20 psi (stop alot of staking of ur tyres ).. and u will be laughing

low pressures is how you prevent tyre damage in the bush.
the manufactures recommended pressure for on road in a sierra is 20 to 22psi

on my placard it said 28 psi was recomended so i dunno then shep .. .. but i never had aproblem running 20 psi in the bush but owell each to his own .. stil gotta be a shit oad softer then 30 psi

30psi is too much, you must have had a bit of a hard ride at 30psi, let them down and you will notice how much more comfortable it is... there is a tyre placard, inside the drivers door, just under the door latch, i would stick to what it says for on road, and no it doesnt matter what size tyre you put on, just use the Suzuki recommended tyre pressure, on the tyre placard... from memory i think its 24psi for a Vit.....

after we fixed the puncture with one of those sticky rope things, i used dads pressure gauge thing to pump it to 23psi (following the manual)
driving it today i noticed it was handling like shit so went to the servo and used the digital thing.
i got a bit of a shock when the first tyre said 33psi in it :/

i havent really needed to let the pressure down so far, mostly just driving mud and big puddles, might drop em to 15psi next time and see how that goes

different tire size all up, but 31s on our jimny we run 25 on road, for gravel road about 16, rocks and mud around 12 and sand 7.
that works for us pretty well

mine on 31s:
Simex: 20 on road, 5-7 offroad (any terrain)
BFG KM2: 25 on road, 10 offroad (any terrain)

the simex are super stiff and even at 5psi i wanted to go lower to soften it up, but couldnt comfortably do it not having beadlocks. the BFG KM2 now fitted are far softer and need 25psi on the road to make a proper contact patch (20psi and the sidewalls touch the road on corners!) - 10psi worked VERY well last time i went out, they bagged out HEAPS.

dont forget that each tyre only has around 250kg on it under a sierra, obviously its more like 350kg on the front and 150 on the rear, but either way running at 30psi etc is just crazy and will be way too stiff.

this said - when i did the lane change test in my sierra my tyres were at 35psi to stiffen the sidewalls...

yea ive only had my vitara for less than a month and today was the first time i checked the tyre pressure, to find them at 30+psi..
and after a day of 4x4ing too haha

When I got the BFG AT's 215-75's on my Jimny, the guy at the tyre place said to keep them up to about 35psi (he said they should be alot higher than the standard tyres.)

So I should let them down to about 26psi on bitumen?

And about 20psi for dirt?

start with the recommended pressure on your placard and then half it for medium speed off road.
go lower if ya need to.

in 25 years of lots and lots of bush driving i have only had 3 tyres staked and only once have i poped a bead.
i dont drive hard and i run lowish pressures.

my feeling on tyre pressures is that within reason the larger the tyre you run on a given car the lower the air pressure required unless you are increasing the load carried.
so if 28 psi is the max recommended on say a 215 75 15 then 20-22 would probably be about the max i would run in say a 31 10 15
obvoiusly ply rating an carcass type( ie radial/basis) will affect these too.

my 34 swampers handle as good at 10 psi on the road as they do at 20psi
and you could probably drive around on the black top at 7 - 10 psi and not even know they were that low, but you would be had pressed to do that on say a 235 75 15

I think a good pressure to run on say a 31 10 15 radial tyre would be
around 18-22 psi on road
and 10-15 psi for general bush work
and 10 or under for rock and mud

I run between 3 and 5 psi usually if I can be fucked actually putting a guage on them.
I have low pressure stauns (0 - 10 psi) that will let then down to somewhere between 2 and 6 psi (yes they are that accurate) so usually they deflate to whatever the staun stops at and I drive on it
