Hey guys i was driving my car today and all of a sudden the clutch stoped working and it was stuck in. Anyway i stoped ( cause i was in the car park of the BP) and get out to see what was up and there was smoke and a big FIRE coming from under the bonnet and sprayed the fire extinguisher on it.
The HUGE battery + terminal was touching my bonnet which caused a short whcih caused the clutch cable to blaze.
So after that we found the fire had melted the clutch cable and the clutch pedel was loose and my accelerator pedal was stcuk to the floor and was jammed and the brakes arnt working good. Soo i had to tow it home with no lights.

Does anyone know how much this would cost to fix  im only 17 and have $1500 in the bank

Please help

get a smaller battery
get a new earth cable to go from the block to teh negative battery terminal
get a fat cable to go from the firewall to the negative battery
get a new clutch and accelerator cables and fit them
is the master cylinder melted looking? if so get a new one

be flat out spending $400 on that including beer

new battery $80
new brake master $150?
2nd hand airbox and intake tube $40
new clutch cable $70?
2nd hand accelerator cable $20?
can of primer for the bonnet $10
new earth and positive cables and terminals $15

the look of absolute horror on the faces of those filling up with fuel..... Priceless!!!!

Next time make sure the terminals are covered with some kind of rubber cover and the battery is securely mounted.

(don't quote me on the prices)

oooo and get a fire extinguisher too

youll be right, buy some spanners and get stuck in, its not hard, the cables are piss easy if you have ever replaced a brake cable on a bike and the mastercyl is a bit harder but whats the worst can happen? you bolt it on and cant get it to work and take it to a mechanic anyway

I found out my 700cca batery did the same thing (arcing out on the bonnet). I trimmed the terminal down a little and insulated the bonnet with rubber and it's all sweet.

when I joined the NBS club i got a sticker and went to stick it onto the windscreen of the zook. climbed up and knelt on the bonnet, trying not to dent it when all of a sudden 'fuck thats hot' lifted my knee and the bonnet had a little patch glowing red!

didn't catch fire but the bonnet had shorted on the battery.
