for some reason the starter isnt getting the full load.
not sure if its the alternator is charging the battery or not, but the sounds of it theres plenty of power in the battery.

after a half an hour drive it still doesnt start the car.
i have recently put the motor back in the car and hooked it up.
all terminals are tight

i have a feeling that i may have some wires wrong on the alternator or the starter motor.

i have a neg from bat to starter motor mounting bolt.
pos from bat to alt and starter motor.
should there be a neg from bat that goes to the firewall?.

checked the battery in another car and it starts it.
battery light on dash goes off when car starts.
dont have a multimeter so cant check for charging volt.
checked the the green plug that goes into the alt with a test light. two wires have power to them.
car does start after a while when you turn the key while its in gear lol.

its either, dirty terminal cable, or broken alternator
should i replace all negative and positive cables

define after a while, after a while it starts to spin or after a while of turning over it starts?

if the starter is spinning the engine over its not the battery, new engine
I bet your tune and vacuum hoses are all wrong

when car is in nuteral bat doesnt even turn over the motor over.
when i have it in gear and let the starter motor drive the car foward or reverse, after a while it starts.
manly when im on a slop.
which i no doing tha, puts alot of strain on the starter motor.


motor has just had a rebuild.
got a 4k carby on it, hencewhy all vaccum hoses are all rong. dont have a clue were they go.
just wondering how does vaccum hoses stop the the starter motor getting power?

its deff not the battery cos it charges and starts another car.
its some thing to do with the starter motor not getting anough current.
some times it cranks over slowly, then after a while it start cranking fast :s

and a battery feed to the battery? you said you had an earth to the starter??

reconnect the earth to the fire wall aswell.l

theres a fat negative cable that goes from battery to a mounting bolt on starter.
theres a neg from battery to fire wall.
and there is a pos from battery that goes to the nut on alt and starter

Try fitting one, can't see the "in gear" having an adverse affect tho..

how large is the one that goes to the alternator amd starter?

the positive going to the alternator should be about the thickness of a pencil and the one going to the starter should be thick like a finger or thumb.

the alt wire is just smaller then a pencil.
its also has a plug.
the starter motor cable is about the size of a cylinder head bolt

Way to much inital timing advance can give a similar effect, starter will struggle to turn engine over.

it goes ok. has a miss in it tho, thats cos of the carb and vaccum hose, other then that it goes good.

might be the advanve time. my sisters bf was playing with that.

Are both battery terminals tight? Are all other cable connections tight and in good order?

I think he's cranking it in gear on a slope ie: downward slope is turning the engine over

yes it drives all gears, it drives fine when started
yes scrawnC, its the only way it starts, or just roll start it.
doesnt turn over in neutral.
all terminals both ends are tight

If you take the power lead off the coil it won't fire.

What is your starter doing? Or not doing?

It was working after I took it apart and cleaned it all, then after a week it started to struggle, and now it just clicks the solenoid but nothing else when I turn the ignition. The starter doesn't turn over.

The smaller cable connected to the starter has a rough connection point, so I'll replace that and see if anything happens.
