My battery light still lights up when the car is running so i assume the alternator isn't working when that happens?
Is there a way to test it before changing it incase it's still good and it may be another problem?
There's 1 big green plug that goes to it and another big wire that bolts on. I assume the big wire that bolts on would be the power coming out to the battery? so what does the big green plug do?

yep the big one is the charge wire, if its charging you should see around 13.8 to 14,5 volts at about 2000rpm
the green plug has 2? wires into it? one is the wire that goes to the light, the other is the ign sense wire (the white with black stripe I THINK) it should show power when the ignition is on, if not find the blown fuse and theres your problem
just check the light doesnt light up with ignition on and plug removed to to eliminate any funny shorts
