I'm pretty sure my steering uni has a seized bearing. whats the easiest way to get the shaft out to check this? I was just out for an hour undoing a few bolts but it looks like you have to pull the box in order to allow enough room to get the shaft or at least the uni out. its a 91 WT sierra.

on a standard wide track you should be able to unbolt the steering biscuit. (round rubber thing) to get one end of the steering loose

Undo the rag joint. 2 bolts..

Undo the top spline bolt near the firewall all the way out. put it somewhere. If its still in, it will stop the shaft from coming off.

Pull the shaft out. May need a few taps, open up the outer spline with a screwdriver, and use crc/wd40

No matter what suzuki, it will have a rag joint/biscuit.
WT's only have a colapsable shaft. You shouldnt have to colapse it to remove.

I gave that a go but gave up because of a small space and big hands. I'll go have another shot.

righto got it out. when you say open the outer spline do you mean peel back the rubber seal?

Rubber seal??

There is an opening running along the side of the spline outer. Its so it can clamp onto the spline. If you got a big screwdriver in there, you can pry it open abit, loosens off the actual spline.

O right were talking about two different things. I have the shaft out but there is only movement in one direction in the uni. that cant be fixed can it.

Unsure, i have never seen a thread on replacing the shaft uni's, Id be looking for a good second handy.

you can pull the unis apart and service them.

yuck, ok off to the wreckers then. when I drive the car the steering is just a bit nochy when I go around corners. I'm going to fix then but for now is there any danger of some sort of complete steering failure if I drive it around for a few days?

alright so the problem is now fixed. I called up every single wreckers in Townsville and only one had a WT sierra. the bearing was stiff but movable so I put it in some kerosene overnight to try to loosen it up. it did a little but it still isn't perfect, unfortunately I had no choice but to whack it in... don't notice it at all.
I read in here that the uni joint out of a pulsar will work. I pulled one when I was at the wreckers and its to big.. it was out of a 97 so maybe an earlier year will work?

I talked to my mechanic and he said that if I couldn't find a second hand one that he could pull it apart and repack the bearings. so they can be reconditioned but he said the best he could do was about 50$ for his time.. I paid 25 at the wreckers.

i have them in stock brand new , cant remember the price off the top of my head but i think they are less than 1/2 price of suzistore ..

we will have an online shop within the next 6 months when we expand and take over the building next door to us .
