Hi after some answers about 15" wheels on an SV420 vitara.

looking to buy one but the old guy who owns it says he tryed to put 15" wheels on it and they dont clear the caliper? is this the case?
is this something that can be overcome via using larger offset wheels?

asking this as the car im looking to purchase is 100% stock as a rock with factory 16" steelies and would like to put my -22 ofset 15's on it as i have a load of R15 tires and i also am led to belive that R15 are a lot cheaper than there R16 counterparts?

can anyone confirm any of this for me?

yes, but some caliper grindage is required

buy some caliper grindage, what do you mean? like in mm? also what offset wheels are you using and does this seem to affect where or how much needed to be ground away?

my set of 15" sunnys have -22 offset.

Quoting rim offset without a rim width doesnt give much infomation. a -22 offest 7 inch rim and a -22 offset 10 inch rim will have a shitload of difference.

i'm running -15 15x7's from memory... i was done 4+ years ago, from memory the raised cast part numbers were removed & some from the outside edge, i do have a problem when fitting new pads as they make the caliper to wide, i usually change the outer pad first & wear it down a bit then chuck a new one in the inner.

Wouldn't it just be easier to sell the 15's and get some 16's? or 20's

This doesnt sound real safe let alone legal. Imagine the road saftey investigation after your brakes fail and you injure someone.

well not really... changing pads isn't exactly difficult + 15" tyres are heaps cheaper than 16's.

not everyone is building a mall cruiser that needs 20's

they've been on there for over 4 years & they're still fine, i've seen more meat taken off calipers on hot rods & show cars.

wow i started a debate :S

hows the legality on grinding meat of the calipers?

I would rather not get rid of my 15's as they have basically brand new mud tires on them that i got below cost price. and finding a set of 29" mud tires for 16" rims i cant imagine will be an easy task? and not cheap either! Im stretching it as it is to get the vitara (if i can that is)

from what ive seen i can get a 225/70 R16 thats roughly 29" in a MTr for about $220ea?
