Did all sierras come out with the same brand starter motor and if so what brand were they?

Is the starter motor in the pic the original that would of come with my sj70?

probably all mitsubishi though there there would be variations of them all

thats not original, its a unipart aftermarket one

a while ago, before i got the car an auto electrician alegedly reco'd the starter motor who he of just put that one in?

He may have just done a swap with one he had reco'd earlier. It's possible the one that came out was beyond repair.

things like this auto sparkies dont fix, cheaper and faster to get a rebuilt or new one from somewhere like ashdowns that rebuild them in bulk or build in china

it just doesn't seem right that a reco'd starter motor would shit itself after a couple thousand ks
do starter motors die very often?

do you know how old it is?
do you know whats wrong with it?
do you know its the starter? (sierras often bugger up the ignition switch and leads and cause starting problems)

how much mud has the starter seen? ive replaced a starter that was a month old once after filling it with some pretty corrosive mud

at the most it would be 12months old but it would of done maybe 2,000 ks and in that time it went off road 3 or 4 times and only once in bad mud
it doesn't want to turn the motor over it grinds and slips then sometimes just doesn't do anything, i thought at first it was the battery but i bought a new one and that made no difference
i'm not 100% sure i'm just going by what people tell me

only need 1 in mud
grinding and slipping could be stuffed ring gear on the fly wheel too, turn the engine over 90 degrees and try again, what does the gear on the starter look like?
could be mug in teh solenoid not pulling the pinion in too, maybe give the snout a good clean

there are a couple stuffed teeth on the ring gear but most of its alright
the teeth on the pinion are a bit worn but there all there
what would be the best way to clean out the solenoid?

you dont need much wear to make it not work

unscrew the solenoid and hit inside it with carb cleaner

when the starter motor is out of the car should you be able to turn the pinion by hand?

from memory you can when its in its away position but really have NFI now

thats what i thought mine seems to be full of crap and seized
