Also interested in this as Ive just purchased a SV420 stock as a rock.
Ive seen people with the rated hooks bolted to the tops of there bullbars? not sure how strong this is?
I would assume bolt those rated hooks to the chassis would be best??

Having a body lift, I was able to lift the bar, leaving good space for hooks.
As you can see, the tie down point is ready to rip off.

Bar was lifted 50mm same as BL.
Would be a tight squeeze without it.

Why is that?
Not that I want one.
It could be a fairly easy thing to make, instead of buy?

from what i can work out that is designed for the SWB chassis with the tube front crossmember similar to the sierra set up, the SV420 is very similar to the front of the LWB's

I never noticed I didn't have a tube front either.
Lucky I don't want one

Any other ideas? I'm interested in this as I occasionally need to reverse recover people too.
What about the rear?

Agreed with the above, need points for stock..ish vehicles.
On a side note, I've got an ARB bar is there any way I could mount recovery points to it?

So do I. When looking at the front of your bar, underneath you will see a thick steel flange on both sides of the bar. I'm going to drill a hole in each one and have my shackles there.
Flying recovery hooks scare me.

Yaeh I saw those and was unsure that they would support the shock of a snatch? - Post some pics once you do.

They should be right surely. don't those thick flanges connect directly to the Chassis rail?

I'm body lifted and these are custom mounting brackets, but you get the idea:
The only time I've needed a rear point I used the nanna bar, which mounts with 4 M12 (or even bigger...?) bolts straight to the chassis. Was enough to pull a beached LC80 off the mound:

I've seen pics of this done before (but i don't remember where ) and they welded plates to either sides of the holes to reinforce it
I think the sierra ARB bars have them in the same spot as standed

So I'm thinking of the point at the middle bottom of this pic, do you think I could drill and snatch or drill weld plates then snatch. I'd probably do both sides and use an equalizer strap

ive got the sierra ARB bar. and those holes on the front are plenty strong as long as your bar is mounted stong. ive snatched out a range rover many times in reverse off one of them. (now i lead everywhere so i dont have to pull him out backwards) but id assume the vitara bar is the same thickness steel. id say throw a hold in there (make sure you dont warp the steel though. and yeah run an equalizer and you should be rite. but if it were me id buy a hook and bolt it to that point instead.

Oh yeah, hooks are good, then I don't have to worry about messin upa weld (I normally have to give it a few goes)
Any Ideas for the Rears? I use my tie down at the moment I hate it for 2 reasons, 1: it'll break soon and 2: it spins me sideways when snatching.

I'm gonna disagree with you there
I've seen plenty of them tear out, or come close. The laminating ring is only spotwelded on, so it only takes a few rock impacts to remove it.
Recovery point should be atleast 10mm thick steel.
Microwire, If you have access to a welder, I would suggest laminating both sides of those front metal tangs with 4 or 5mm, theb drill the hole. Fully weld around the laminating plate also.

OK I'll give it a shot, my welding skill isn't the best, is there any chance I might screw it up and just make it weaker?
edit: in saying that I've gotten a lot better and things are actually holding and not just making blobs on the surface

Can't be worse than how ARB holds their laminating rings on

Hah nice. I'll give it a shot tomorrow and see how I go, would you agree with The ninja that I should go hooks or just go holes and shackles?
Also on a side note, if I'm building bash plates what thickness plate should I use?
