What front axle assy will fit a LJ80 are there other models that will fit like maybe the tracker ,sidekick or geo that would be close to the right width or any other 4x4 vehicles that I might be able to use the front axle.

Gday J860112, the narrow track Sierra's (Samurai for you) is the same track (width) as an LJ80. However they do not have a central diff centre like an LJ80, there are a number of modifications that can be done. Mate if you can tell me what it is you are trying to achieve, I may be able to provide a solution.

The front I have now the brake drum spline are striped and whom ever owned it before me drove it that way and wore the splines on the axles also and no axles or brake drums in the USA so thought I might be able to replace the whole front assy with something newer with disk brakes and with parts I can find in the future any information you can give me will be great thanks, JIM

If parts above are not what you want then...

You can do a sierra/samuria disk brake conversion.
Now you will need everything from the outer CV from a pre 1984 sierra. That includes outer CV shaft, bearings, swivel hub and king pin assembly, disks pads and brake piston assembly and hoses and finally 4wd hubs.

Also you will need to use your LJ80 inner axles and the the inner race and balls from the LJ80.

Disassemble your LJ80 axle/cvs, be very careful not to damage the inner race or balls.

Disassemble the sierra axle/cv, most likely you will need to cut the axle as close to the inner race as possible, then rotate the race to 90degrees and pop each ball out, the remove race and whats left of the axle and circlip.

Clean up throughly, making sure no swarf is in the assmbly. reasemble the outer sierra cv then slide in the LJ80 axle with circlip. Regrease.

Assemble the sierra swivel hub on the lj80 axle housing, paying attention to condition of swivel bearing and mainwheel bearings.

Insert axle components, and brake components, then the hub assembly.

Bleed brakes, enjoy.

Note on some lj80 models you will need to upgrade to the later LJ80 brake master cylinder as the the earlier ones cant cope with the disks for non-return valve purposes. the pads will come out and stay engaged and not go bake in.

Other will correct me if I have missed anything I am sure.

does the hand lever have a thick shaft were the knob screws on? If so LJ80 (ratio about 2.5:1).
If the thread is narrower than the shaft then it is LJ50 (lower ratio about 3:1 = better/sought after conversion), so long as someone hasn't swapped shafts about.

Why does he only need to limit his search on front hubs to those from a Pre 84 Sierra?? All Sierra hubs are the same from '81 to '95 (incl US market Samurais), and the discs (and disc mount brackets) are the same from '83 to '95, but he does need to use the CV from a '81 to '87 SJ410. Of course, this has been explained to j860112 before in this thread, including where to source the parts.

Yes you gave me a source they where 49.00 each and 125.99 for shipping and the other source for the 1988 axle the axle was the houseing only did not include the parts I need for the change the total would have been over 500.00 and still would not have all the parts I would need sorry I am just poor old retired army guy I cant afford to spend that amount the whole lj80 cost less than that but thanks for the help anyway j860112

Post "84 the internal race on the cv is slightly larger. This means that the CV outer is slightl larger too. When the LJ race is put inside it is not a "perfect" fit and therefore it has a tendancy to crack the race when the cv is placed under greater angles. I have learnt this from experience. Have you done the conversion 303zuke?

Done it several times.

As I said, "you do need to use the SJ410 CV" (aka Birfield). You shouldn't actually mix the ballrace components within the CV/Birfield. Keep the 1.0 CV complete and just insert the LJ Axle shaft. I wouldn't be putting parts from one CV into any other (either SJ/SJ or LJ/SJ) at all as they will not be matched and that will be the cause of the cracking you experienced.

The donor Sierra (or Samurai) that supplies the swivels, hubs, discs and calipers is not limited to 1.0 litre models. 1.0lt, 1.3 NT and 1.3 WT will all work perfectly as they are identical, but the 1.0lt CV (which as a factory NTN item is marked "75AC", the 1.3 size is "82AC") must be used to mate with the LJ 50 or 80 inner shaft. The 75AC CV continued to be used on 1.0lt Sierras well beyond '84 to around '87, and may even have been used in Marutis well into the '90s. I suspect that most of the new CVs appearing for sale on e-bay and through other suppliers are not Genuine NTN parts, but some other aftermarket brand, and may not go by those part numbers.

I dont agree and neither does Suzuki Auto Springwood, They were the ones to give the advice to me. The issue as I said is with the LJ inner axle width. But each to their own.

Absolutely x 2 on that.
