I think you should all have a better look at the pics, I call BS, I don't care if the owner drives a Rolls Royce he is pulling the wool over your eyes. That engine has been in that engine bay for quite a while, the bellhousing bolts are covered in grease and grime, the tape on the loom is not fresh, it nearly looks like a trial fit.
Look I could be wrong but I would say the true story will be something like this, the owner has put the engine in at home with no skill, no tools, a bucket of rusty bolts and some tape. He has found that the sump hits the diff and a host of other things out of his depth so he has taken it to a shop wanting them to finish the job. Because it is an abortion they are hesitant to put the time into it because it will cost more than the car is worth to fix the problems, after he has annoyed then unceremoniously for weeks on end they have told him to take a walk. So he walks to you and all of a sudden they are responsible for his abortion of a job. I have seen it many times and this just smells of the same.

I wish it had been in the car for a while. Its like the workshop got the Vitara Motor from the car and put it straight in with no mods.
The owner wouldn't know what a combination spanner ment.
Every water hose is second hand.
And yes it drove to Us.
As I get it fixed ill put up pics of how it should be done.

Even so, unless you know the exact story it is a bit unfair to blame this on another workshop. You need to know for a fact if the owner supplied the car and asked for a conversion, or if he supplied the car with a conversion started. Fair enough he may not know a spanner from a socket but he may have bought someone elses unfinished project and wheeled it into their workshop. Do you know what I mean, for example, I welded a bullbar onto a chassis one time, the guy rolled up at a mates workshop with a bullbar from something else on a Friday arvo, he was going to Moreton the next day and wanted the bar fitted. The mounts were all wrong and it was a few hours work to do it properly but this is like 430pm on a Friday. He really wanted it on there for the trip so I welded it on and he was going to bring it back later on and get it done properly he paid me a six pack. He never came back, months later I heard my mates workshop being bagged for welding the bar on instead of doing it properly.

The same shop done a 1600 conversion on one of my cars a few years ago and they done the same thing to the bellhousing on my car as what been done to this one
I didn't know conversion plates were around back then and just thought that's how a 1600 swap is done

back then there were no conversion plates - they were custom made on a per job basis... well, the reputable workshops did anyway.

That was 2004 and he told me after when i had problems getting the gearbox out that most people use a conversion plate but they just do there engine conversions like that  
The reason i was pulling the gearbox out was to replace a rear main seal that started leaking after 1000km's on a recon motor that they built, when i told him that it started leaking he said yep ill fix it under warranty but you will have to bring your car up now and leave it with me but i wont be able to fix it for a couple of weeks
And then when we were pulling the gearbox out i noticed thet was oil leaking from the front timing cover aswell  the camshaft seal was put in on an angle like this /

Some more pics Best one yet with a radiator bracket welded to the steering box.
We got the go ahead to do a heap of accesories aswell so it been changed to BB jinmey injection and radiator to allow room for the battery and air con.
Think I stufed up the order of the pics but should get the idea.
Hopefuly have it finished in the next week or 2 have inly been getting an hour or 2 a day to get it done.

The green SWB is green all over now will try get a pic, Been so busy I havent had a chance to do much yet. This one ive been doing after hours just to get somewhere

im betting there was no thought given to the heat damaging the worm gear etc either... let alone the safety issues using a steering box as a load bearing support =)

I was thinking the same thing Shep. Obviously if the guy has a welder and can run a bead, he's got to know that welding to the box is a bad idea.
The only time I have seen work like this is a trail repair (welding with batteries), or a guy who likes to get pissed before he works on his rig. seriously, mine was just as bad as this when I bought it, if not worse.
I found out later the guy would get pissed Friday night and fix the zook from the weekend before, then go wheel it on the weekend drunk as.
The guy knew enough to buy good tools, but hadn't learned how to use them yet. MY boy took off my winch plate mounts with a 12" adjustable spanner (crescent wrench). He pried up, then down, a little wiggle and the winch plate popped off. The previous owners exact words "I pulled plenty of heavy jeeps, and one full size out with that bumper, it's stout, and ain't going now where"

The car is finaly finished and customer is real happy, will get last of the pics up as soon as i get my phone sorted again.

We did do that SJ70 aswell but that was just EFI,Pwr steer,A/C and air locker. Not a ground up. There is no build page for that one though.
We have done a Blue LWB with With all the same stuff and doing a Green SWB ground up build at the moment

Think i saw that green one when i was in there... its an interesting green colour, he he... green with yellow overtones, sort of like a " Bile " colour, ha ha... but good work on the other Sierra's !
