Hi Guys,

I went for a drive around town the other day in the wet and everytime I took off at the lights I had to be super carefull about the clutch as I would spin the wheels with no effort at all. I know these tires aren't the best on road and I can drift damp round abouts without anything more than a slight bit of pressure on the right foot.

I'm very much the Sunday driver everyday, how does everyone else combat this? or do you just not worry about it?

BTW I'm running 30' BFG muddies.

Just a function of old, hard tires I'm afraid...

I have the same issues with my Yoky's currently... Although they still need to be provoked to break out, they are slowly on the way out!

You could try dropping tyre pressures and see if that helps? Try 25PSI and see what happens...

25psi except the right rear it goes anywhere from 25psi to 0psi but it takesa few days, I never managed to stop the bead from leaking.

edit: the day in question I was on 25psi

Look at your tyre place card. Run those pressures.

If the tyres are old, they go hard, and will slip easy. There should be a date mth/yr melted into the sidewall of the tyre.

Well theres your problem right there, BFG's are one of the worst for slipping and sliding on wet roads, lol... if you have no extra weight in your zook, i would drop the pressure another couple of psi, see if that helps, but yeah, if they are old and hard, not much you can do about it...

The goodyear ATR's on my ute are guilty for this. Although they are getting low in tread and long in the tooth.

my wranglers were bad, my ol'man 80series on BF muddies is bad. but to top them all, my boggers understeered in the dry on round abouts

wet tarmac is the only place i can fault my BFG ATs. even with brand new ones up the front theres not a whole lot of improvement. unfortunately all tyres have their good and bad points, these just happen to be shit in the rain. personally i think they grip better on gravel than they do wet roads...

Heh yeah they aren't the best, I got them mainly for the rims and intended to put 31's on them but I prefer 30's so I'm looking at getting some new rubber. The spare is a last resort, as in only use if the alternative is dying

I'm looking at getting some bighorns but I'm thinking that most of my driving is on rocks and sand should I just get some mall terrains?

rocks and sand require 2 different tread patterns... sand will benefit more from an AT pattern, while rock is better with more of an MT pattern.

i've not had my KM2's on proper sand yet, but road and rock (wet and dry) the KM2's are shining right now - by far the best tyre i've had on those surfaces - i cant comment on mud cos it doesnt rain here anymore.

Nice thanks for the info Alien, Maybe I'll look towards bighorns cos I'm on rocks most of the time, I can't really aford the extra $100 each for BFGs.

Yea did you get this awesome piece of info? You'll find once worn out they will slip all over the place especially the at's. In good condition both the km1 and km2 are bloody unreal on the wet road for a muddy!

Stay well clear of GT radials. Currently running these and they are dead set dangerous in the wet. The soon they wear the quicker they get replaced.

I also find my Bighorn's are surprisingly good on wet bitumen...
