My zook currently has monroe gt shocks and has reset springs that the guy who said did them said were lifted 2.3/4in over what they were.
i currently have less than an inch of down travel left in the shocks when its sitting flat. i'm looking for the cheapest shock set up to get better flex. i've heard people say something about commodore shocks, what model commodore? are there any other ways to get cheap flex?
Cheers
Mike

VR wagon rear in the front
I think it was hilux rear in the rear, I also think some triton ones will work
easy way to get flex? reduce friction, I even mixed graphite powder into paint to paint my leaves 1 at a time once

your shocks are to long for the space they are in. vr and hilux shocks need to be bump stop spaced as well or you will stuff them really quick. i think anout 1 inch will sort them out but thats no good for you. pull your shocks out and ramp it then measure how long and short your shocks need to be.
are you spoa or sua? asking because if you only have about 1 inch before they bottom out your pad would have to be ontop of the springs and your springs are pretty flat.
for more flex you need longer springs and shackels changing shocks will only help if they are limiting you spring flex.
just got posted that you are spoa. you need longer shock mounts. have a look at the bolt on set from rocky road then go make a set, i got some set over and when i seen them i realised they are simple as to make!! they are still sitting in my shed waiting to do on the car.

It's only the compressed length you need to worry about.

not really its the travel you need to look at, then you make its compressed length fit

I've got a couple of pairs of Commodore rear shocks. They are both aftermarket ones (Monroe) and are slightly different. I am not sure what models these are for, just that they are Commodore rear. I was led to believe that the ones to get are from the solid rear axle Commodores, as these are supposed to be 10" travel, but i've yet to confirm this is the case.
There are numbers on the shocks, but they are hard to make out as the stamping is pretty light. I think they are:
Blue ones:
15-0166
D 02MR01 A
Compressed length: 360
Extended length: 595
Approx 9" travel
Beige ones:
15-3116
D 150C02 A
Compressed length: 385
Extended length: 650
Approx 10" travel

its sua the shocks probably compress 6 or 7 inches but when i jack the car up by the body i'm lucky if the wheel drops an inch i took of the shackle while it was jacked up and it didn't drop anymore. how much longer shackles can be put on with standard spings?

lol Damo nice toe
commodore sedan shocks are longer than wagon shacks, and yes you should have spacers on the bumpstops but in reality most springrates will be too stiff to bottom them out
hehe who wants to hear the story on how some bright spark figured they were good shocks to run?

kyb is manufactured by ngk spark plugs. cut them open and you will find they are prob the best manufactured and designed shocks. they also make adjustable nitrogen gas versions too.....

Where can you get those from? I might be tempted to have a look at them once my 2-pairs-for-$50-ebay-Monroes die

do you have the sway bar, are you jacking 1 wheel up at a time?
if you take the shackels off and the shocks have about 6" then the shocks or you drive shaft will be what limits it because front of springs will want to hit the floor because nothing is holding them up.
i wouldn't really go extended shackels unless you have longer springs in it. with out longer springs you shackels will be pretty close to vertcal. that will give you a very harsh ride and then only the springs are flexing. you want to end up with your shackels on about a 45, then your shackels will let the springs drop as well as flexing.

i jacked up one side with a high lift then stuck a jack stand under the the chassis rail so just the one wheel was off the ground then then i took the shackle off then i realised the sway bar would be stopping the down travel of that wheel so i disconected it and it didn't make any difference, i thought something must of been binding but i pressed down on the spring and that moved but the wheel didn't go down any further so when the car is sitting flat the shocks are pretty much fully extended.
so will i get more flex with standard shackles on the original springs?

ok i got con fuzzed though you said you had 6" of shock to go down.
sounds like you have std shocks in the car so thats why the springs arn't moving with the shackels off. shocks are at there limit.
you need longer shocks at the very least. thats sounds like your problem.
for good flex it be putting some carry van rear springs in the the front. vr,s rear shocks in the front 2" lift springs in the rear with hilux shocks bump stop spaces and a 2" ext shacke. it will have great flex.

are carry shocks easy to come by? do i need to do any modifications to make them fit?
what sort of springs for the rear?
and do i need hilux front or rear shocks?

carry rear springs for the front not carry shocks. no they will fit and work really well with ext shackels.
2 inch raised rear sierra springs for the rear or mazda 808 wagon rear spring. you will need to redrill the locator hole for the 808 springs
hilux rear shocks. front and rear will need to be bump stop spaced. you sholud have about 2" of lift with the springs, ext shackels and the car will ride a lot smoother.

i meant to say springs
so the carry springs will be better than just using lifted sierra springs i the front? if i can't get 808 of lifted sierra springs are there springs off aything else that will fit?

yes the cary springs are better because they are longer, will give you a better shackel angle, move th diff forward (will help fit bigger wheels) and heaps of flex!
if you can't find those springs go get 2 main leafs made up longer. have a look at the longer springs topic has every thing in there you need to know and a few pics as well and the longer main springs. id go a smaller ext shackel but.

so are they carry front or rears i'm after and is a carry and super carry the same? what would happen if i used 808s but didn't redrill the mounting hole further back?

i think the carry and super carry are pretty much the same thing and its carry rears.
don't know about the mazda stuff as i haven't done it yet but they are longer all round, i'm looking at getting some springs tomorrow and putting them in. some people have said the 808 spring in the rear move the diff back 7 mm and other say it way out of wack and have to redrill.
in looking for 808 in the front and 323 wagon in the rear with ext shackels lenght that will sit at about 45. hopfully i can find some springs. i was going to go hilux leafs alround and put new spring hangers in but its to much work for now and my welding is crap
