My under dash headlight fuses are still there, cos with the relays triggering off the old loom plug you still need them there...

You don't splice into the original loom at all. Its just like you have in that noob-cad drawing there. The only place it joins the original loom is the original headlight plug. I just shoved some blade terminals in there...

Ah okay, that's what I thought was shown there. Which means the new looms would be quite short really?

Jaycar has a relay/fuse combo in 15 or 30A - seems pretty intuitive and a good idea. One for hi beam and one for low beam would make issues easy to identify and resolve:



Can anyone help with a schematic for blinkers and park lights? Do they also use the same 30/85/86/87 relay? While the front bumper is off I might as well kill a few birds with one stone and get the wiring right in the first foot of the car.

Blinkers and parkers really won't benefit from running a new relayed circuit mate ... they're both low current (5W'ish per light from memory) and stock wiring is fine. Just creating more work to do them also with no noticeable benefit and more wiring to go wrong IMO

If you feel the need to upgrade things, go to LED brake lights (with LED flasher to suit). It's been proven that they light up between 0.1-0.2s quicker than an incandescent globe, which at 60kph is 2-3m of wasted braking distance for the person behind you. A worthwhile mod.

I just got a set of these bad boys off ebay. So I gotta run a 6mm line from the battery to the relays? That seems pretty hardcore.

Also what's legal/illegal in terms of brightness? What colour bulbs make for the best night driving?

So the original headlight looms are separated into left and right... does it matter which side I use to trigger the relays?

Shouldn't do, why the hell are they separate? You could always trigger one relay from each so you'd never lose all your lights?

Also as far as legal, I thought I read somewhere that it has to be the same type of light, i.e. you can't retrofit HID lights if you didn't have them in the first place or something like that.

The headlights are fused for left and right looking at the stock fuse box, so i'm guessing the wiring runs into the engine bay based on this separation??


I got some Phillips something or other +50 globes (@55w/60) which are legal - nothing too outrageous. But i'll wire things up so 90w/100 bulbs are a possibility down the track if I choose to further upgrade.

Both my loom grommets are full to the brim and seemingly don't want to budge for one more wire...
