What do u guys think of these?

http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/suzuki/s ... t-kit.html

Was going to put one in when I get the 6.5 gears.

Let me know what you think/what you've heard, there doesn't seem to be much talk about them around.

I have some, yet to install.

Mainly bling and bragging rights. I also got the 5speed knob.

I was more looking at it to compliment the 6.5's as it'd likely make for a nicer shift pattern going between low and high e.t.c It does look pretty bling though.

I was trying to find out if they are dodgy or not but from what I've read they are better than having twin sticks.

I've had mine in for a while.

It works, but there are some things you need to know.

Installation requires some reasonably accurate grinding to be done of one of the shift rails, and a larger diameter shift boot might be required.

Also, the pattern isn't two separate T's, it's overlaid over itself - It's impossible to tell what range/drive the car is in by looking at the lever position - you have to cycle the lever to work out where it is.

The twisted TT kit is a much better than a twin stick because it retains the detent ball between the range rail and the drive rail - it means the transfer can't pop into neutral at highway speed - a problem with twin sticks.

However, the shifter moves through a greater range than stock, so you may find the boot is tight on the lever and this may cause the car to pop out of high range on overrun. This might only be a problem with the 1.0 boot I am running (and the fact my transfer is slightly relocated rearwards, but nonetheless, it's a fact the lever moves further than stock.

Is it useful? Meh... maybe. I use 2WD low more in my driveway than I ever do on a trip. It's a bit like a rear disconnect - 99% of the time it doesn't work the way you want. 1% of the time it allows you to do something awesome.

I wouldn't open up a transfer case just to run one. If I had a case open already, I'd use it as an excuse to fit one. (That's what I did) but I did have another reason - I'd pulled the interlock detent with the intention of running a twin stick, but then I had the car popping out of gear on the highway, so I needed to put the detent back in.

Thanks steve that's the info I was looking for. Yes I'll be putting it in because the transfer will be apart for gears anyway. The fact that the pattern is overlaid is good too, I tend to remember when I'm in 4wd or 2wd, I assume the 4wd light still works correctly? Or does it come on in 2wd low?

As for grinding, I break out the 5" every chance I get and am no stranger to precision grinder work!

Since you already have one, since the pattern is overlaid, how does it work switching between two and four? is it shifter on the right is in gear and moves between high and low range, shifter on the left is neutral and shifts between 2wd and 4wd?

Main reason I ask is because it'd be handy to be able to change between high and low fairly easily with the 6.5's! Just don't want to go breaking things that's all...

You have to come to rest before you can change between high and low anyway, so its no better or worse than standard arrangement.

Yeh I realised that, just was wondering if it goes through neutral between high and low (like the standard pattern) so you aren't going to knock it or something and blow up the tcase.

Either way, I just got an email back from lowrange and they reckon they can fit 6.5's, a tcase rebuild kit (gear install supplement), the twisted tt kit, and a tcase+tranny bushing kit all in the $65 box for shipping so $800 or so all up.

Now I've got to find a roctoy ring so I can strengthen the thing up when I put it back in.

Yes you are right, the pattern still goes through neutral between low and high, so a bump will only take the case into neutral. This isn't shown on the TT knob.

You can only shift between low and high once you have brought the shifter to neutral.

So assuming you were in 4WD Low and wanted to go to 2WD high, the lever starts roughly in the middle of the gate. You pull back one click to get neutral, then across to the left, then forward for 2WD, then right to go across the gate, then pull back for High range.

The 4WD light will still work, but there's now a lot more play in the lever, lots of the movement of the lever leaves you in neutral (there's now 4 positions on the lever that are neutral, not one) and in the case of 4L to 2H, it feels like you are shifting to exactly the same spot you have just come from.

It's just an observation - it's not a show stopper, but I guess I expected stock shift precision, and you certainly don't get that. Here's the shift path with the neutrals put back in. There's no detent springing on the RHS of the pattern (the lever just flops fore/aft) and it has quite a long throw on that side, which makes for the vague feel. You have to guide the lever back into the RHS of the gate.

..................2L
.........N------N
......... I......2H
..........I......4L
........ N------N
.................4H

Like I said, it does what it says on the box and all, but there are some provisos that aren't clear until you've owned one.

^^ They are made here on the gold coast right?

also, thanks again steve, I don't quite understand it from your drawing but from what you describe I get the idea. I would have liked it to stay with a positive feel like the standard shifter but hey it's not the end of the world!

Ah, the spaces didn't come out on my little diagram which screwed it up. Check the edit.

Cool as, that's what I was expecting from your description. I assume those two I's on the left are to represent the left side of the pattern meaning you can only shift between 2 and 4 on the left hand side?

Either way I'll work it out when I put it in, I'm just waiting for the email invoice from lowrange so I can confirm and pay for the order!

All you need for gears install are the gears and the gear install supplement bearing kit right? (and the tools, time and skills to do the job)
I've also ordered the twisted TT kit, as well as new shifter bushings for the trans and tcase.
