Suzuki secret fix bulletin will come in handy. Will speak to Suzuki on Monday about shims and bushes. Rang up Suzuki
Customer service last week to speak about this Jimny problem and all
I got was 'take the car in to your nearest dealer' . Since the Ford dealership took over Suzuki a while ago and plus the fact that I worked there for a short time I know that their knowledge on Suzuki problems would be minimal and I would rather take it to Harrison's 4wd Centre who have done all my services and I would rather trust them. As stated earlier I toom my Jimny into Pedders for a check and this is the result:

Image

Zukenutter and Steak_knife, you two guys can probaly make more sense of this report than me, all I know is that my castor needs correcting.
Also, when going thru my car paperwork I looked at the report from the OME 40mm lift kit that was fitted by ARB. I knew the
rear was higher than the front after the lift but after checking these figures I was surprised at the gap and also very disappointed in the end result of the lift in the front.
What, do they just average the whole lift to make 40mm. It is not even an inch on the left.

Thanks mate, I think the toe is out that way to combat the pulling to the left. This was done at a tyre alignment shop prior to the Peddler check.

Pulled this quote from another forum. Worth all of us calling.

Righto,

This is what you need to do if you have a Suzuki Jimny and your steering wheel wobbles at around 75km (or between 70 and 80 km). Yes the previous posts are correct but regardless of your car being in or out of warranty...

Call Freecall Suzuki Customer Care: 1800 777 088

Tell them that you car is experiencing the 'Jimny Death Wobble' aka the Jimny Shuffle and they will agree to pay for parts. I took my Jimny to Suzuki in Osborne Park and they knew how to fix it straight away (in Perth, WA).

Initially when I called I got a 'customer care' person on the phone who said he knew it occurred in the UK but not in Australia. (sure mate, where do Australian Suzuki's come from? Overseas! (at least mine did anyway). That guy referred me to another 'customer care' person who literally said 'how bout we don't pay for anything at all'. Nice customer service - they must spend a lot on training. Anyway, they did say they need to hear from more people before they arrange a recall etc. So please call them if you have had a problem or experience the same shuddering. My steering wheel would wobble and shake uncontrollably if i was doing about 75km and only when I hit a small bump in the road.

Personally I think they should do a recall considering my car has been hardly driven, its a 2006 model with under 30,000km. It cost $300 in labor and about that again in parts which Suzuki covered. Thank you Suzuki for sorting this out (even though I had to pay labor) at least they recognized the fault.

Hopefully if enough people register their problem they will issue a much needed recall!

Well, no luck for me when I rang. Guy I spoke to did not acknowledge it, did not want to talk about it and every time I asked a question about it he ignored it and all he said was to take it to the nearest service department if I have a problem.

dnt no about the rest of u, but when my car was standard it has a shake, put a rtc on and havent had a problem, that was bit of 3 yrs ago, it now has 80mm lift with 3degree castor and diff moved forward 12mm, and on 31s, and still no wobble, the only time u feel it is when u get to around 140 and thats probly because of the unbalaced claws that r on it

Silver Jim had it from day one, new from dealer. Now with 80mm lift and 235s no problem.

Lift is definitely not the source.

Remember the time I told you to retension the front end, wobble want away??
Fitting lift need's the bush bolt's undone & re tightened after completion, so, you can't say lift definitely is not the source, the bush's may of just need tightening..

Yeah I'll pay that. Wasn't saying that the lift is what fixed it though just that lift can't be blamed for the wobble if done properly.

I stated earlier that I was told to get the wheel alignment done by the stud holes and not the normal method (centre hole), well found a joint that did it and got the front wheels balance and no more wobble. But to help in the future I have just bought a stabilizer and have ordered firmer bushes and will get them fitted in the next few weeks.
Cheers, Paul

I've bought this shim set from Big Jimny. Perfect size and no more expensive than hunting around and buying locally.

Ok. I took of my RTC last week, and went for a drive and what a difference the RTC makes, with out it you can hardly hold on to the steering wheel it is that bad with out it. So that's not the cause of my wobble.

1,200km Brand new Jimny 2011 no dramas so far, then all of a sudden steering wheel felt like it was going to shake out of my hands, at 74kms hour, drop down speed below 65 and would reset it. back up wobble. Excellent. I have mine all stock atm all booked in for lift and tyres etc this week and 1st service booked after F#*%K!
Stopped, had a feed, decided to take the "piece of shit" home, all fixed no wobble. WTF. So it's not going to do it if I take it to the dealer to "look at" and before I do any mods would like it fixed? and I dont want to hold off on mods just to wait and see when it does it again.

take it before the mod's, it's a known problem....................
they should fix it, especially given the lack of Km's traveled.....IMO

we know the symptom's & even tho you can't get it to do it, they will have a road that will make just about any of em do it on a test drive.

what state are you in????

Well I'm unsure of how NSW handle's it, but in my ole w/shop, even if I couldn't get the car to do it, I was able to determine whether or not it would through inspection.....

As said, it's a known problem & Suzuki have a "fix".

Just thought I will add my experience. I had the death wobble too. Had it from day one, stock form. (No power steering either, Awesome work out!)

Did'nt worry too much about it... So lifted with 80mm TD kit, kept stock tyres on for a bit. Started to wobble a fair bit like normal through the same speeds as everyone.

I fitted a steerin dampner. It is a adjustable TD. It only helped when adjusted up pretty high. Which made it Awesome again with no power steering. Still did'nt fix it.

Fitted some older 235/75 r15 off my old sierra, all balanced and wheel aligned. Drove it around thought it fixed it but then stared again about week after, no offroad driving done between then and no way the wheel could have been unbalanced or off alignment.

Anyway did'nt stop me driving it. So still all good bushes and nothing bent or brakes out or what ever. Undone everything and fitted again, again thought it helped and then happened again.

Got bored trying to fix myself and took it to Suzuki near me. I explained to the front desk guy. He said he thought they had one in before for the same thing, but knew nothing about it himself. So he put me onto the head mechanic there and also spoke to some rep guy for the whole of Suzuki QLD (Just happened to be there at the time).
I told them the story, they knew of it a little bit. I said I had taken it to all different people and they could find nothing wrong with, also I checked everything myself (Work on a farm for 8 years now.. Jack of all trades, master of none). The guys said yeah you should still be able to shim the kingpins any way even if there is no movement or slop during checks.
So I said cool book it in, I am sick of doing all the work I will just pay for it (Being lifted and bigger tyres, no way they would cover under warrenty. and yes they tried to blame it on them even though I said it did it from stock).
I think they quoted like $180 for the top and bottom shim kit and fitting it.
Meh Did'nt care, don't have the time to fix it before holiday myself.
dropped it in before work at 5 in the morning. Got a call about 11.00 sayins its all done. I knocked off work early and went in at 4.00 in the afternoon (Knock off is usally at 5 or 6 in the afternoon).
Got there and they said they had 3 guys (1 mechanic rep I mentioned) check it all over. Brakes, bushes, shocks, nothing is bent castor is all good because I have custom arms to correct............... NOTHING WRONG!

I said, no shit... I already told you guys that... I wanted the shims fitted to mark it off that thats not the cause of the wobble. I was going to pay you to do that. Already cost me money knocking off early.
The guy at the front desk got the mechanic over to talk to me. Told him what I want. He said "oh we have to order them in". (They said they have them on the shelf when I spoke to them first). The mechanic said its a shim kit they have to order in. Booked it in again they got the shims in the next day delivered.
Anyway this story is getting too long so I will go quicker.
Got the call, "all done".
Got there... "Oh we only done the top shims. We recommend doing the bottom too.....

WHAT! Why would you just do the top!! Retards!

I said this better not make my seals leak or anything!

(Wobble still there after only the top was done).

Booked in again, they done the bottom now. All done...

He tried charging me whatever they wanted at the start. I said you have got to be shitting me... (Calmed down version of what I really said)

Have'nt paid anything yet to Suzuki. Apart from not making money not being at work. So I won't mention the dealership name.

But all shimed top and bottom... No Death wobble.. All good 40,000 klms done so far with the shims done.
I have a 2004 Jimny, no power steering, 4 inch lifted, 30 x 9.5 r15, steel rims, castor corrected arms front and back, TD adjustable dampner set on soft now with the shims done, good brakes, good bushes. Don't know if I missed anything else that may cause a death wobble on the Jimny. (Yes I will start a build thread very soon, Just finding all my photos now).

Long story, short... I think start with shims. (Maybe not use Suzuki, and do it yourself. Just make sure you can set the load right). I can't find how many shims they used in mine, and dont really want to talk to that Suzuki place again.
Thanks for reading my rant and hopefully fix for anyone.
