does any one here have a 3door grand vitara with the j20 motor in it, are they a good zook for a daily driver

Fuel consumption isn't the greatest for such a small automatic car. I get about 11l/100km, but that's with 225/75R16 tyres, 5.12 gears.

For it's size it's a really good 4WD. They are small enough to fit into really tight spaces, all-round visibility is fantastic, storage space isn't the best but for 2 people it's more then adequate.

Given a little maintenance (ie regular oil changes etc) mine seems to be a good performer. I just had to replace my front wheel bearings which cost about $800 due to the hubs forming the outer bearing race and me not maintaining the bearings over the years (rusted out).

Note that the earlier 3 door GV (mine's a 2002 so not exactly that much earlier) uses Vitara parts - brake pads/discs etc. The 5 door versions use bigger brakes etc. It was a bit of a headache sourcing parts.

i rate the j20 fairly highly , also its a much easier engine to work on than the v6.

ive got the 2.5 v6 model at the moment but now that my lwb sierra is on the road im thinking of going the 4cyl for rego and service wise now that i have the 2 cars on the road.
