ok i am after some feedback on the 3000lb-4000lb ebay winches
they can be had for around $100
BUT is any one on here ACTUALLY running one??? i have scene some small winches work wonders on suzukis before with double line pull's etc

any genuine feedback pls?

i think every one hear runs the 9500lb winches, that does sound little dodgey.
though i run a 4500lb winch i got for 400, works good for pulling me or small jobs round the block, but i wouldn pull a bigger car out.

Personally, I always go wheeling with someone else and a snatch strap, I reckon thats the safest way

I wouldn't wanna be out bush with my winch as my only hope of getting out when stuck... And if I was in that situation, I'd want the best winch that money can buy...

I have a 3500 lb cheap ass ebay one on the 50, it saved me a couple of times and failed a couple of times. Fixed it a couple of times too but I shouldn't have bothered. When they decide to drop out of gear on a 45 degree slope when you've pulled out a tyre stem the temptation is to throw it.

I've got a cheap winch. It's called a Magnum. It's a little bit cheaper than a Warn...

Cheap winches = rubbish build quality. . . that said my ride ryder hasn't failed once yet. . . its pulled range rovers and pootrols out pulled myself and a rangerover out at the same time with a snatch-block. I can really fault it other than its noisy. . . still spend the money if you can. if i had more money i would have bought a better winch.

you can pickup 6000 lb 1/2 size drum winches on ebay every so often for arount $250.
thats the minimum I think you would want to run if you are proper stuck.
Ive had one on my rig for 2 years now and its saved me and others a few times.
Ive also seen people burn out or break one like you are looking at on the first semi reasonable winch.

thanks for the link jonno, i have one coming for my trailer.
the little winch that i had on the back of my swb worked ok through a
snatch block. in fact i cant remember it not getting me out of a bog when
using the snatch block

so the answer is maybe, the problem is everything is small light and thats sort of the opposite of what you really need when winching.

check out the weight of the one of the one I linked for you, its 10 kg at least lighter than say a 9 or 12 k winch but runs a full size gearbox, 1/2 to 2/3rds drum width with a lighter motor.
if you put rope on as well you'd save maybe 2-4 kg
in the end its up to you but a winch that wont pull you out or is busted is just usless weight your swinging off the front of your car

yeah i like the look of the one u linked.. nice price 2.... i will have to have a proper look into the space i have available.
i think i will be ditching the steel cable for synthetic though!

that's what i'm looking at, narrow drum 6000lb.

as phil said add some rope to it & a couple long extension straps to get the length & you've got a decent sized winch that only weighs 20 something kilo's. a double line pull & some shovel work would pretty much get anything stuck.

I went with a cheapie 9500lb ridge ryder, ideally i wouldve liked a tigerz11 with rope but this one popped up at $320.
I just need to make sure i atleast spool it out and run it atleast once a month, which i hope to do coz ive put a reminder msg in my phone every month.
I'm lucky i can go down to my stepdads and with the side gates open i can spool it out all the way and hook it up to his caravan at the very back of yard and retrieve it underload.
I'm realistic, and if it stuffs up i'm not overly fussed but with a bit of care it may last a while.
I just need to buy a good recovery kit now with snatch block and winch straps.

yeah i did see them when looking at gear on ebay. i'll probably buy the gear seperately. The good thing with that style is theyre more compact, some of the older style ones have huge outer plates on them.

when i bought my 6500 winch i also got a t-max winch kit as well
it has a easy to use snatch block, leather gloves, 10mtr and 20 mtr winch
extension straps, a couple of 3.7 shackles all in a flash bag that doubles as a
cable dampener. from memory it was $99

haha $100 snatch straps must be made of gold. i have never payed more then $40 for either a snatch strap or winch extension.
