For ppl who have done this to a swb
How did you relocate the rear spring hangers on the chassi extension?
I'm guessing not many ppl have done this cos they would just use a lwb chassi.
I see the chassi spreads wider at the rear
How would you line the hangers back up
The front one would be easy but not sure about the back one.
I wanna move the rear diff back 6inches or so.
About a 86 inch wheel base I'm after.
is that to much for a ute conversion?

Stock LWB is 95"...
86" won't give much room for a tray or be much better than stock...
If you are going to do all the work of stretching a SWB you'd go to LWB length or longer.

What about a 92 wheelbase.
Each diff moved 6 inch and get the drive shafts extended.
Or is that still shit
I don't want a overly large tray either.

what size tyre are you going up to?

i moved my front diff around 6" forward and the rear diff about 1" back (rear moved back without chassis extension, just relocated the hanger.

My front chassis extension is hidden by my front bar.

Either way i went up 7" in wheelbase, and moving the front forward shifted the engine weight back a bit making it way more balanced.

I didn't want to move the diff forward much, cos then I would have to start chopping away the guards.

I have plan to move the rear diff back 6 inches making it 86 wheelbase, so it doesn't look so shit with the ute chop

fatzook is right, the links will be alright but then you cant mount the springs that would also be alot more work as well.
and if i dont extend the chassis then there wont be much room for the tray mounting

i reckon it would be much stronger the way you did it


the more extension i add on the wider the chassis gets
would i just make new hangers to mount on the new chassis and line them up with the wt spacing on the diffs?

how much longer is the lwb drive shaft?
i would need longer shafts if i move the dif back.
or am i better of cutting up my swb one and adding longer bits to it?

I dove tailed my chassis so the rails ran parallel with each other. My chassis is the same as a OEM chassis now (except for the fish plates )

the chassis bends out woulds at the rear
if i weld the extension on in line with the other chassis it will follow the same direction, which is spreading out woulds

basicly you put a slit down the inside of the chassis rail, across the top and bottom also, then pull the 2 rails together.

How I did it was to cut the rear x-member off the WT chassis, then I removed a thin wedge of the inside face of the chassis rail , which allowed me to 'bend the rail' inwards. After doing this, I made a 'Z' cut through the rail ( see pics in my thread) and joined the new chassis section to the WT chassis.

i was wonder how you actually got yours to go straigh because they go outwards.
so you cut all the bars that stops you from bending the chassis inwards.
then cut a wedge out bend chassis inwards the reweld in place right?

then cut out half bottom and half top pieces out of the chassis, join and weld?

Sorry if you take this the wrong way Zooky08, but this thread is excrutiating.

Are you sure you know what your getting into?

Personally there's much more performance to be gained from pulling the front axle forwards than moving the back axle back. It transforms the car.

In any case, you're only running 31's - I'd be doing a 2" BL, locking the diffs an just enjoy outdriving all your mates I'm not sure there is enough of a performance advantage with a 31" tyre to justify all the extra work.

PS my personal car is a LWB with the front 30mm forward and the back about 180mm back with a coil conversion. I'm at pretrty much 100" of wheelbase and run 34-35" tyres. I think I'm a touch too long, and I don't really see a big capability advantage of my wheelbase over a SWB with RUF.

Anyway, I guess I'm saying make sure you know what you are getting youreself in for. It might not be what you were trying to achieve.

Funny that - I had lots of stuff about how building something because you think it looks cool isn't the best path but then got all confused with who wanted a comp truck (how many threads are there about this lately?) and took i t out of my post because I thought it was a different OP.
