I have been after a bull bar for my Wt sierra for a while, but in far north QLD there is shit all. I was all ready to fabricate my own. I have friend who is a sheet mettler who is pretty keen to help me out.
But I ran into this at the wreckers yesterday its an ARB bar off a 96 style side triton. It would need about 200mm cut out of the middle to make it the correct length and the back would have to get cut out and new mounts done up. I didn't get a chance to check heights of things to make sure it would clear the shackles and bonnet etc. I went back but they had shut because to Yasi.

I know that this is going to be somewhat of a shit fight to bung up into something that is going to fit on the sierra but the wreckers only wants 150 for it which I think is piss all for a platform to start with. I feel like fabricating one from scratch with all the bending and that would end up being more work that modifying this one.

Just wondering if anyone had any experience modding bull bars to fit on a sierra. Pic below

O and the bar I would be looking at custom building would basically be an ARB bar just about $800 less without the ARB sticker on it.

any thing is possible.

I cut 150mm out or an ARB Pajero bar and it fits my Vit near perfect. Just have to fabricate mounts too. It is a little heavy compared to an ARB Vit bar.

rsholzma, you might be onto something here, but take a couple of measurements before you start.

First, measure from the upright between the headlights to the edge of the front guard on your sierra. If the triton is close, then the bar might end up looking like it was made for the car once cut down.

The other measurement is the height of the uprights. I think they'd be pretty close.

It's a bit fiddly to cut an arb bar down - I've done one - taking 110mm out of a sierra bar to suit a narrowed front end - but they come up well.

If the dimensions work, go for it. If it's far out, let it go. It will always look bad, regardless of how cheap it is.

hey steve, for the first measurement are you talking about the width of the stock bumper? or the top of the upright to the bonnet?

the upright do look about the right height but if anything they are to high. if thats the case I might just grind out a few mills and weld it up again.

I'm most worried about the lower bit being to big and hitting the shackles. but I don't think thats anything a grinder cant fix.
but ya no one so far has said its not worth it so I'll deffo go have another look on friday after Yasi has blown over.

I modded a 93 pathfinder bar to fit my GV.

measure the height of the top tube, and uprights to make sure they clear your headlights, thats the main thing.

Ok so quick update..

I bought the bar and I have so far got it down to roughly the correct size. the massive sides have been cut off and I cut 198 mm out of the middle and welded the whole thing back together. tonight I'm going to work on fabricating the mounts for it.

My question is, is cutting the tube that the front bumper mounts to considered chasis modification? I would love to shorted or lengthen it and put another late on the end so that I can have two more bolting points because the measly two onto the chasis isn't much. It would be done properly ie. it wouldn't look like a botch job, just newer and stronger than whats on there.
