I picked up some 5.12's for my sv620 vitara. I exploded the diff thats currently in it and dont want to have to replace the center/gears if this was to happen again.
So now for the question can i use a sierra carriers with the vitara 5.12 internals and machine a boss for the mount and weld that on?

Also will i have any problems using a 10 bolt rear diff instead of the standard 12 bolt?

thanks inbits

Do you mean entire sierra front diff housing?
If so, the 5:12 vitara ring and pinion will fit the sierra carrier.
But the output for the drivers side axle wont fit the vit axle,
needs a bigger hole.
So you need to fit Vit carrier and gears into sierra housing.
Then you can bolt entire diff and housing straight in.
But the Sierra front diff has an oil channel along the bottom,
which won't clear cross member.
So sierra diff housing needs a cut and weld, or crossmember does.

No nothing of the rear diff.

Ok so a rear diff will fit I'm pretty sure I have more room than a g16 sump h20a Is front sump I was planning on using all the internals from the vit diff so that's fine

I just need to work out a mount

I got half way through that plan,
before deciding getting a steel front from a GV was better
for my skill/tools level

I suppose you could mess with front diff angle,
to avoid cutting anything.
Anyway good luck, hope it all goes well.

Front and rear sierra diff housings are same size. 99% sure.
Is only the side gears that have different splines size and teeth count.
As you using entire Vitara internals, it shouldn't matter.
rear Sierra also has the oil channel that may get in the way.

In my various diif threads there is some great mount ideas and photos,
if ya want to search

Reading through that I have an early diff from a 1.6 lwb vitara with 22 spline side gears. And from what I read the sv620 has 26 spline? Can i use the 26 spline hemisphere with the early model gears?

I would say yes, from what I understand.
But best to get another opinion
