Hey all,

Just curious as to your experiences, what tyre sizes would be relatively safe in a Vitara.
I'm not wanting to change CVs every week, but would like to have a bit of clearance to keep up with mates Landys, Patrols and Hiluxs. Most running 31s.

Keen on getting a set of 15x8 Sunraysias and chucking some Bighorns on there. 31x10.5" Anyone running something similar?? What kind of lift is needed??

Thanks,

Nicholas.

well even with 30s and open diffs you can embarrass the big boys

yup, thats right :D

With some slight wheel arch massaging and a 2" lift you can squeeze 30's or 225/75/15

With mine I could easily fit 32's but I'd have to get reduction gears. For the meantime and until they wear out, I'm more than happy with my 30" BFG muddies and 235/75 AT's.

you will need a body lift or do some guard chopping to get the 31's on without too much scrubbing

what suspension setup etc are you running

I only run 30x9.5 Bighorns and only find myself stuck in deep bogs where peeps have been through with 35" + rubber. My diff drags between ruts :(

Other than that you'll show them up no problem. If I had my time again I would have gone 31's.

welcome to AZ Schnapper, what side of Adelaide are you on?

30's & 31's will be fine... cv's are pretty easy to change, a shattered alloy front diff gets a bit messy. if you wheel with a bit of mechanical sympathy the front end will hold up to 30's & 31's.

there are a few people with 30's on vits running a few different combo's, check out a few of the members build ups, Jono165, chop, Joe, FullyZooked... don't bother reading mine... it's WAY toooo long.

Haha Atari I've already read yours..... well up to page 12 then skipped to the end. I'm from the Eastern suburbs, Hazelwood Park but moving to Magill tomorrow.

Yeah I'm thinking 31s. And no lift at the moment, I'm just trying to knock up figures, budgeting etc. Picking up the Vit tomorrow, stock as a rock.

Suspension questions will come soon too once I've had a decent search of the forums!

Thanks for the advice, hopefully this winter I can go mudding with some of you ;)

I Run BF All terrains 235 / 75 / R15's on mine and they don't rub under full flex... :D well thats full flex out of stock suspension and no BL... not a bad tyre... if i had my time again i probably would of gone Muddies :)

here's a question for atari : will 31's go under with just 2" Body Lift???

31 will need 40mm bumpstops in rear or 2'in body lift and lip belted flat and maybe a bit of the bumper trimed off
Front will need the plastic removed then belt the inner guard flat out in to the void then bend the outer guard in to the void then use some metal screws to put the plastic guard back on
U can't tell it's been done if u do it right
Might need bumpstop in the front don't know but I have them for my lift not tire clearance
Ps u will need a steel diff before u go 31 or u will just destroy ur diff

31's with no lift or any other mods is going to end in tears. Flex will be shit due to rubbing on wheel arches and the front bar. It has been done no worries about that but in my eyes you would have a more capable rig with 30's and no lift.

Stick 2" BL atleast and you will be fine with your 31's.

31s with no lift = no turning circle.

I've gone 3in susp, 2in BL and some panel beating and mine still scrub over decent bumps (rear) and under hard braking (front)

Oh, and I fragged the front diff, but as Atari said with a bit of sympathy you can avoid that.

Get your lift in first, then look at tyres.

i found 30's and around 2.5"-3" suspension lift was good. flipped strut tops and bump stop extentions in front. i had 15x7 with -12 and required front bumper cut and bash rear of front arch in. 1 cv started ticking but that was my own fault.diff and engine crossmember dragged quite a bit when hitting rutted trails. rear tyres caught lip of rear arch too.
31's and 4" suspension lift i have now and seems very good. strut top flipped and spacer, long custom coils. diff drop bracket. rear needs something done with triangulated top link to space or stop binding.

front arch needed plastic taken out with lip bashed down and bump stop spacer as req'd. front bumper needed a bit more cut too.

a 0 offset rim would be better. or + for 8" wide rim.

I'm with you on the rear A arm. I too have pumped suspension lift to the max and now get monter arse steer. We need a 2 inch drop bracket for A arm and a 2 inch extension for the tailshaft. MORE MONEY!

I'm trying to bully FatZook into making me one, once one's done I'm sure he can spit a bunch out fairly easy.

Pffft. Whatevs. A-arms, longer control arms, diff spacer, drive shaft spacer, front arms, front diff drops... they're all on the list!
