The last time I had the drum brakes replaced I was told the ones I gave them, pt#1683 as listed for the 4 Door LWB were different to the ones that were in there. I can only presume the ones that are in there are pt#1691 which are to suit the 2 door SWB.
I think the only difference is the spacing of a hole that the spring sits in.
Now for the silly question, do I replaced the ones that I take out or the ones that are actually recommended for it?

ones you take out, there is no consistency in vitaras rear brakes, and the books are likely all wrong as well

Ok now I'm stumped.
As previously mentioned, Pt#1683 which by the book suits 4 Door vitara arn't the right ones. The only other drum brakes listed for vitara are Pt#1691 to suit SWB 2 Door.
I've got both sets of brake shoes, and they are very similar, but neither are the right ones.
Being my main car, I can't really pull them out and take them down the brake shop to get matched up. Any thoughts?

Repco list 8 odd different sets of shoes!
I was sure mine were the same as X90 as everything else on it it but they werent

Take a clear picture (ie printed out, not saved on your camera or phone) in to them. They should have a catalogue with the shadow outlines of the various shoes.

Well my Repco were a waste of time, The response I got was, If it's not int he book, I don't know. He didn't bother calling up suppliers or anything. So I went down to the local independant spare parts store and they did a bit more research.
Just for future reference, the correct part number for the larger drum brakes is #N1735

If its an on the shelve part, like tyre shine, i go to repco/supercrap
There is no point in asking 14yr olds and big 50+ women can i get a ___ for a ___

I took 3 goes to get my lwb right shoes,
2 sets were very similar, 1 was clearly wrong.
Now I take the shoes in everytime, and keep box they came in.
Next time will take box in.

PS I get brake stuff from Advance Brake n Clutch in croydon, nearly always cheaper than auto shop, and have a better lknowledge.

40yo + male, and they didn't have anything for vitara in stock, And he was just a rude prick. I had explained that the ones in the book arn't the right ones yet he proceeded to look them up tell me the price and say nah don't have em in stock, I showed him the old shoes and again explained that the ones in the book arn't correct, He just said Oh ok, I asked him to cross reference it with the shadow outlines, he just threw the book at me and gave me a smug look.
The new bendix and Ferrodo catalogue's don't have the outlines but I also previously mentioned that they were the brand Brake Bonders which is what they usually have in stock.
He just said, Nah.
Ok thanks, Cya.
So I went to the independent and they did a bit of ringing around, and yep It'll be here in about a 2 hours.
These ones cost $59, which is pretty much average.
