i am trying to take both front guards and iner wheel archs off my 86 sierra and just wanted to know th best way of doing it???

You could always undo them , mostly 10mm bolts , couple of 14mm bolts and you need to remove your front doors so the guard can come off. You might need some wd-40 or similiar , large phillips for door screws and if there tight a small centre punch and hammer to loosen them , remove wiring , battery , airbox , see how you go , Cheers Paul.

if you want to take both guards off, just remove the complete front clip, leaving the grill attached to both sides, so all you're doing is removing the doors, all the bolts on the fire wall and the two front body mounts on the front of the guards and take the complete front clip off in one go. That might save some effort instead of removing each panel separately, because sometimes it can be a real pain separating the grill section from the side guards as the screws are usually really hard to remove on that bit.

thanks for all the help guys, i thought thats was all the bolts and screws i needed to take off but just seeing if there was anything i had missed having trouble with the philips head screws wont budge at all. i have had to weld bolts on all them to be able to get a socket on them to get em off but i dont know if i should do it to the door hinge, but if i have to i am going to replace them all with hex head bolts i will have to get some pics up of the beast this weekend so i can show a befor and after.

oh and its a 86 sierra tray back what is the model code??? it says its a SJ51??? is this true???

you usually use a impact driver on the door hinge screws, or use a butane torch to heat them up then the impact driver.

Use 6 x 20 button head stainless allen head bolts , not that dear when bought in quantity , about $30 for 100 , they look good and also run a 6 x 1.0 mm pitch to clean out the threads , Cheers Paul.

OK, trying this too. I just bought a butane torch and got an impact driver a few days ago. I've got a couple of door screws out, but 2 more and the ones just inside the doors aren't budging.

Giving each screw about a minute with the butane, heaps of whacks after with the impact driver, but not joy.

What to try now?
