have broken a cv and in a attempt to get the jimny back on the road as it is my daily have come up with the plan of dropping the front diff oil and taking both the axle and broken cv out.

this will only be for a week or two and will only be driven in 2wd...

cant see anything wrong with doing this but if anyone can...
please don't let me learn the hard way

take your front drive shaft out, and it will be fine,

pull the front driveshaft out as well, be a lot less chance of the diff turning then

sorry for a thread hi jack, but i have wondered, when out wheeling, if you put a hole in your rear diff, can you put it in 4H and disconnect the rear drive shaft so it runs as a front wheel drive?????

you can on a sierra, i'd assume jimnys are the same but from memory vitaras (maybe just GV?) will spill all their oil if you disconnect the shaft.

the diff would still turn though so it wouldnt work if you had destroyed an axle etc.

diff still turns

you would be best off trying to patch the hole with what you can and keeping oil in there

i know on other 4wd's you can easily pull the whole rear axle's out of the difs pretty easily.

Floating axle's yes....

take you front drive shaft out & you'll be fine..

Not sure it will work for newer model zooks, but my bro broke both rear axles being an idiot in his old 3cyl Zook, in the middle of nowhere many years ago, he was stuck, but got out by putting it in 4wd high, drove over 150kms like that to get it fixed, didnt do any damage to the front axles...
