Hey just wondering what sort of mods i will need to get my jimny to cape york. i will be travelling with a group of cruisers, patrols, etc. Currently running set of Cooper Discoverer ATRs but i am looking to install a snorkel and a lift around 2". Im thinkin either Dobinson or OME is a go. Any other mods anyone would recommend?

heres some guys did it a while ago, some others have as well but yeah solid suspension and tyres would be good, along with a nice way to store all your gear that wont fall apart

Three months ago I seen a mazda m3 twenty K out of Coen.Some car magazine did it to show you do not need a four wheel drive like RACQ advise.

I go to Silver Plains often, rattles are the worst part.No radio coverage past Mt. Carbine; have a mp3 player, and very very good speakers.

Truckies do Mareeba to Weipa in 6 hrs.

I've been wondering the same.

like how deep will the water crossings be that im going to come across? will i need a snorkel (diesel). Will i have to pack stuff into dry sacks or will the tray on the ute stay mostly dry?

i'm planning on buying a new ute (if it all pans out) and was tossing up weather to have a snorkel fitted from factory, as it will be more show than go, and only used for long trips.

the question is more a case of which way are you going up. if your doing the telegraph track a snorkel would be a good idea.

any opinions on dobinsons vs OME 2" suspension upgrade in terms of comfort on corrigations, travel, durability etc?

i personally would never buy OMEs again so dobinsons for me if those are the only options

Standard 2wd ute does it easly in the dry; if it's wet dept of creeks will be the least of ya problems, they flow very,very fast. carry 5 tonne of ballast, or we might never find you.

I've never been to the top by road, but to Coen there is no creek crossings to worry about, we're smarties up here, gullies and creek crossings are concrete, with about 1K of tarred road leading to them.
If it's been raining you won't get to see them.

The coppers put road closed signs up, and even if you drive aound them you won't be going far.

There is only one road to the top, I assume Tansie is talking about the CREB track.The power lines run along the road now, the track,s through NP's , and probably won.t open again.

It is a rough ride around town, but when you get onto the corrugated stuff is it a wicked ride, or if i was to get 40mm lift i would have 'king springs' with rancho adjustable shocks.

One question, are u only doing the development road cause suspension, snokel and the simple things like water and food storage would be fine.
If your doing the tele track than a few extra things may need to be thought about, a bull bar or at very least a nudgebar if your thinking of doing gunshot. But be aware if you only go nudge bar it probably won't come back the way it went up. May have a few dints and creases in it. Has one of the other cars got a winch cause u may need at least one in case u get in trouble. Extra fuel is a must.
