Hey all,
Ever since I did the G13A -> G16B engine conversion on my SJ413 I haven't been able to get into low range 4wd.
My Zook has a 2" lift and it previously had the issue where it'd pop out with a bit of a knock, but I've got a different issue now.

When I put it in either low or neutral, put her in gear and start letting out the clutch I get an awful grinding sound... and no movement. It kind of sounds like 2 cogs trying to sync in together but are just a bit too far apart.

Low range has worked twice since the conversion, but seems to be stuffed now. Hi-Range is fine.

Anyone had a similar issue? I'll probably take it apart and have a look, but if anyone could give me some advice on where to start, that'd be great (I have 0 experience with transfer cases).

I should add - I've done a bit of searching around here and haven't found any similar issues. Plenty of knowledge on low popping out though.

I'm thinking something just isn't properly alligned.

You need to enlarge the hole in the floor - It is preventing you getting full into gear.

+1.

When you go from 2H to 4H does the lever pop into 4H and hold? The lever itself should snap into position and hold requiring more force to follow through to neutral.

It sounds like there is resistance somewhere stopping the transfer case shifter. Either the boot on the lever itself may need to be cut some to relieve tension or the hole cut bigger.

Remove the boot for starters and give it a go from there.
