I've got some old worn silverstone extreme's in a 31 I wanna try breath a little life into, there is a good 15mm of tread down to the carcass but on the centre ribs because of the raised tread pattern dont have much meat left...

Can't find any mates with a tool, has anyone got some good homebrew ways to clean em up and square them up and even deepen the tread a little?

It's a weekend only toy and I'm well aware it's pretty frowned up. So I don't need lectures there.

I've seen fellas use a 4 inch grinder to cut groves in speedway tyres :crazy:

How old are they? If they are over 7rs old the rubber will be hard and useless anyway.

In fiji they used to heat and bend over a razor blade into a U and clamp it, then just use that to cut new grooves in worn out tires.

They would be close... but cause 95% of the stuff we drive is muddy slop/sticky clay I'll make do for the time being with square blocky tread over a softer compund tire.

Don't have a router, might have to try aquire one

Get some die grinding bits. like these and stick them in a high speed drill.

they'd gum up as soon at the rubber started getting hot and sticky wouldn't they?

Might look into that more. at a guess wont be more than $200 landed (someone correct me?) thats roughly 1 tire. will see once I've tried some other options

Have you chased up prices on an actual regroover? they are very basic and i wouldn't think they cost more than a couple of hundred. You could always make the money back doing your mates tyres

Another thing that may affect your searching is, "tyre" is the aussie and english spelling and "tire" is basicly the rest of the world. Go figure :roll:

The only other way I can think of doing it is with a grinder but with a segmented tile cutting disk.

They used to have Mobile Tyre regroovers, well in Perth they did, who would come to your place, and do the tyres for you, from memory it was about $30 to $50 per tyre for small to med tyres... maybe there is one near you...
