4AGZE's use a 7 rib block, same as the AE82 variants ( from memory its the red top with TVIS that has the 7 rib block). All the others use a 3 rib block (AE92 GTI & SX's), the Levins either have the 4AGZE or the silver/black top 20v engine.
I would love a 4AGZE engine in a zook, but for ease of fitting and engineering i would go a injected G16 anyday.
But if your up for the challenge, i've had alot to do with the corollas and considering the amount me, my family or my housemates have had, i'm yet to come across a lemon.
Through my shed/carport we have had
1 x ae82 seca (carby)
2 x AE82 seca twincams
1 x AE82 twincam hatch
1 x AW11 (non supercharged)
2 x AW11 supercharged
1 x KE55
1 x ZZE112R?
1 x AE92 seca SX
The biggest problem with these cars was teh drivers.

Yea with 215 tyres
If u can do all that why more power?

Can I ask why you would want power in a 4wd Wouldn't you want torque not power I have a g16a with a g13ba head on it Very low compression Stock gearing Can fly up hills in 5th I can even overtake cars on a hill I can wind my Sierra up to 130kph on flat straight on 29/30 tyres It's bloody scary I don't understand why u would want more power then a g16a Just my 2c
Why do you say you have very low compression, is it because your rings are worn

Just cause. There are times where I wish I had twice the power

I ment low rpm torque range
Higher compression ratio over standard

Some people think that a 1300 head has smaller combustion chambers than a 1600 head and so they think they have higher compression. They actually have the same size combustion chambers but they have smaller valves and smaller ports so although they go better than a 1300 engine when you get up in the rev range a 1600 with 1300 head has less performance than a 1600 with 1600 head.

G13ba is 9:5:1 and g16a is 8:9:1
Plus my head and block are atleast shaved twice each.
If that's the case
All i I know is, I have a very good torque at low rpm
But 2stroker you have way more experience then me so I believe you

ok having done the 4agze conversion completely my self(not just looking into it), some ppl make it sound allot worse than it acctually is. 4A series motors are one of the most reliable money can buy(like allot of toyota engines)
i got my bigport MAP sensor (FWD) motor imported for $1200 loom + comp and thats an average price. the box cost me $200 in unknown condition and has never let me down. converting to rwd was easy as....because a custom exhaust is needed you dont need a standard one. allot of the other stuff i left standard like water pump and intake.
only thing i have done to the motor since was service and never opened it up!
obviously the cross member will need to be modified for the gear box and a custom jack shaft can be knocked up by pro's for bout $200. no moving of the xfer case necessary!
fuel system is fairly simple, $50 VL fuel pump from the wreckers or like $150 new.
radiator, im sure a standard could be moved to fit but i use a custom 2core alloy one that cost me $600
i also wacked in a suby air to water intercooler for low speed cooling
all i have broken was some engine mounts witch i will change to bush style ones so they cant break and some axles from doing to many skids on 33's...my bad
i cant say how much i spent doing the conversion because i made most of the parts myself and it was coupled in with allot of other mods at the same time
to sum it up...im pulling the 4a out to put in a lwb because i love the engine so much and wouldnt go with anything else... the power it has is just way to much fun and easy to drive off road! i cant think of nething else to say but ne questions just ask, im sure i can help in some way!
...if none of this makes sense is because i never proof read and to lazy to even try!

What is involved in converting the motor to RWD?

Yeah I think that is where some of the confusion comes from, you cant compare the compression ratio of the two engines as the pistons account for the difference in ratio between the 1300 and 1600 engines. If you have the combustion chamber volume of eachhead CC'd to meaure them you will find they are the same. You will have good torque down low because small valves and ports aid air/fuel speed which will assist until you get to revs where the lack of volume due to small ports and valves negate the helpfull effect of the added air/fuel speed
