PS Vitara starter motor removal is a cow of a job

did my starter recently on the sierra - i think the reduction one would be easier to fit cost it'd give more room to see what you're doing - not sure on the vitara's engine bay layout but mine was super easy to get to once the airbox was taken out (all work done from above).

It was a prick of a job,
Lots of stuck bolts too.
It could be worth the extra dosh,
just to keep my sanity

Mines playing up too
When i had the sierra and put the G16A in it, i needed a new starter and i went the reduction one.
They seem alot better than the normal starters, seems alot less effort to turn over, i'll definetly go with one of those on mine soon.

I seems to be longer, according to ebay figures,
May need to trim/reshape the inlet manifild supprt bracket?
All other listed sizes seem to be same as the one thats already fitted.

my new starter was also sounding like it was struggling to start the car, then i got the solenoid click again... since had a relay put on the starter and now it fires up like its never done before! perhaps yours is doing similar?

I relayed mine as soon as I got it.
Was a bit clicky from day one.
Probably also a sign of wearing out.
It is verty muddy in side it, too.

I heard that people like them for the ability to drive on the starter if needed.
I wouldn't need that in an auto, but sounds like that may be a bit harsh on the starter.

Not quite what they're intended for, more for high compression motors (diesels in particular)

I'm not to sure about the ebay ones? They seem to fit a helluva lot of models?
I'll get mine from the auto electrician i got my last one from for similar price.

Yes sometimes we rip ourselves off thinking internet is always cheaper.
My local Brake specialist can supply my Sierra rotors,
needed for rear disc conversion,
for way less than the cheapest ebay.
So I think you are right, my local Auto elec is very good,
will go see them first.
But that means a 2 k walk with starter in hand
Delivery to door is kind of nice.

A swift starter doesnt interchange with a sierra or vitara, me thinks that big a listing and no refund will be a headache

reduction starters also turn slower, not a problem for us but pain in the ass on an old valiant with no choke and a stuffed accel pump in the holley

Yes good point.
May be overkill, money spent unnecessarilly.
If I put a new one of same type, or reco mine professionally,
tho more fiddly to fit, it should last a long time,
before I need to squeeze my arms up side of motor again.

i chucked a brand new jaylec reduction gear starter in my vit and it was poling 1 1/2 weeks later, so i rebuilt the old one, and havent had a problem since

I took the starter for a walk into town,
left it at the starter doctors while I went to the people docs.
They will let me know fix or replace prices in near future.
Will get on with bearings and brakes while waiting.
