i did an oil change the other day and i used nearly 4 litres of 20/50 weight castrol gtx for older motors and i just read on the bonnet that it says to use 15/40 weight is the oil i'm using too thick? should i change it?

should be right, but if it's blowing smoke, the thinner oil will make it worse

gtx is pretty shit quality oil, thicker oil isnt harder to burn, better oils are

I would try and get your mixtures checked 1st as you may be running rich and washing the oil off the bores and burning that

Definitly change the oil for a good quaility 15w40. When it says 'for older engines' it really means pre 1940's cars :lol: . You could even use a semi-synthetic 10w40 if you really wanted to, but don't use anything thicker than 15w40. It won't do any sort of damage using thicker oils, it just won't run as efficiently.

due to amount of kilometers 230000klm i use penrite 30 which seems to be ok :!:

my odometer says 191,000ks but the speedo cable was broken for a few thousand ks
so do i need to change the oil again now or would it be alright for a while longer?

i change my oil/ oil filter & fuel filter every 5000k as cheap insurance.

that is cheap insurance then i was gonna say if you used the vehicle for longer k's it may be cheaper to save for a new engine and do the oil every 10-15k but yeah 6 months is ages

i'm actually saving for a motor in the new year. 1600 bottom end with 1300 head. that's the plan anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!
