Curious, especially of the Sierra variety!
How far have you driven in consecutive days in the little zook?

Im thinking of doing some big trips like simpson desert, tassie from sydney, cape york, with my girlfriend in the Sierra but im worried we'll get burned out from lack of comfort.

Cheers

In a Jimny, 3700km in 13days, Up the birdsville down the strzelecki (via Walkers Crossing) round trip to Adelaide. 2500km of continuous dirt road.
Interspersed with a couple of 2 or 3 day camps to break the driving monotony. Awesome trip, just the wife and I.

Simpson is on the cards for next year.

Longest trip in a day was a fair chunk. we came right from the top of cape york to Brisbane in three days. My sierra is very comfortable on and off road so i had no issues. in a stocker. or one not well set up it might be a different story.

Two people should be no issues.

done a couple of 800km stints from perth to down norseman way
and that was in a ute with not much seat adjustment and a 1ltr 4spd
it wasnt too bad, wasnt too good either. A bit more interesting terrain may have made it a bit more bearable, rather than flat red dirt for 600kms of the 800kms.
I think 4-500kms a day is about the limit if you are travelling consectively

Cairns to Tassie - no worries :)

Cairns to Airlie Beach.
Airlie Beach to Brisbane, GF joined me there.
Brisbane to Gold Coast.
Gold Coast to Sydney, GF flew home from there.
Sydney to Melbourne.
Spirit of Tassie across the Strait, then down to Hobart.

Biggest day was day 2, about 12 hours worth. It seriously sucked.
I was loaded right up, 235's on stock gearing, shitty Queensland roads, soft top flapping away...

If you take the missus, just plan plenty of stops so she doesn't get bored.

In me trusty old Holden Drover soft top dodgy ply and fibreglass roof and sloping back with a double swag tired to it.
Bairnsdale to Joolabinna bushcamp www.jowalbinna.com.au/ in about 9 days
I think.
Jowalbinna is on the Maytown track north east of Laura Qld. the return trip after finishing a seasons work there was a bit shorter by a couple of days GF at the time needed to get back to see family.

Longest and fastest, with one on board was Bairnsdale to Mareeba a couple of years latter.
Did it In two and a half days, through took the shortest way this time - over Ht Hotham through early season blizzard with windows zipped up, through Albany/Wodonga up through the guts of NSW (read F#$hing bumpy).
Lost the keyway in the timing cog, just short of Cardwell which threw the timing way out so the last part of the trip was slow as.
Little engines don't like being pushed hard for long hours and it is hard going on the passengers (neck injuries, chipped teeth and girls need a good sports bra). So pack like your hiking and take your time.

Other long trips in the yellow drover were Mareeba to Kununurra via Lawn Hill (northern way),
Kununurra to Exmoth and return was the last long trip before i gave her away to a mate :helloo:

Newish Zuk now has wind up windows and AC, total lux, so must be getting soft in my old age. It only has done one long road trip so far of about 12,000km KNX WA to BRNS Vic and return (through the middle) in 6 weeks.

Love road trips in Zuks :peaceout:
Give the truckies plenty of space and they all start waving to yu or let you into their slip stream for a bit of a tow
Beware teh caravan drivers - their out to kill yu

Then followed great ocean road into Aouth Australia up through Mt Gambier into Adelaide to visit family. then out through Mildura and Hay into Dubbo. Up to Gooniwindi and back to the sunycoast. 93 tintop Sierra with stock engine:

2700km Adelaide to Perth with trailer in 35 hours (5 hour snooze in a rest bay at the border).

4100km Perth -> Exmouth -> Perth with trailer in 8 days (holiday) ... last two days did about 800km/day.

I modified my stock driver's seat to sit more upright. Also have AC and decent stereo with iPod input. Comfy as =)
