Yes this will let you run wasted spark using Megasquirt, Ford does the same thing with their EDIS system.

thats actually made to use the megajolt EDIS setup on a mini, but I am not sure if I am keen on the EDIS as the modules and coils arent native in Australia I think
some generic Bosch stuff would be nicer I think

It has some other limitations too, from memory you can't adjust the rev limiter with EDIS. And as you say, it would be better to use bits that are easily available.
You should be able to get pretty solid timing with that 36-1 wheel, compared to the 'ole dizzy driven off the camshaft.

yeah I was jsut reading the rev limit part and they make a board that cuts power to the coil or a soft limit that set timing to 0 degrees, I guess you could just map your timing to as much retard as possible as well
the megajolt is $169, plus edis gear so its not much cheaper than a megasquirt anyway

Hay Damo!
Can you tell me how wide the PCB tracks from the coil/injector drivers are on your board?

I'll have a look for you, but there will only be injector drivers on my version.

Yea no probs, just would like to get an idea and also the main 12V and 5V feed tracks
Cheers

So one of these
http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/mega ... p-119.html
is the good value option?
I note this
Quote: Ignition control (full spark timing advance control, dwell control, etc) for one coil/distributor (7 pin HEI for example) and Ford's EDIS systems
So I need to run an EDIS if I dont want a dissy?

Yep that kit would do the trick. Send them an email, Matt is pretty quick with responses and very helpful. Tell him you want to run wasted spark for a 4 cyl with that kit and see what he suggests. The reason being is that kit has a single ignition driver, and you'll need 2 for wasted spark. he'll probably suggest to fit a 2nd driver in the proto area of the board. They supply all those extra components so you should be able to order it all in the one hit, makes it easier.
You don't need to run EDIS if you dont want a dissy, you can but there is more than one way to skin that cat. The way I would go is a 36-1 wheel like the one in the pic you posted earlier, 2 ignition drivers on the board and a coil pack like this kinda thing
Just rat around the wreckers and find a latish model donor with the same kinda thing, and make sure you get the wiring plug with it.

After typing that I thought I can have a dissy, its jsut spreading the spark not doing any trigger stuff so its not important that its any good

Yeah you could do that, though you'd be less cool
Getting rid of the dissy would be a good thing on a mini, they're not exactly in the best spot when it comes to water. Obviously it's less of a concern on a Sunday driver like yours.

What he said
Also what size wires does your megasquirt use, to injectors, ignition, ground etc
