So I have acquired a 1lt transfer case with a switch (so I was told, I have no idea otherwise)

I have read that I need to change the flanges from my 1.3L case.

My question is how do people get the flanges off the 1lt case?

I was hoping to get these off before I took the 1.3L case out of my car in case I encountered any problems.

Joe

rattle gun works best to get nut off... get a helper to hold the flange with a rag. Make sure to fold back the indents oin the nut with a small screwdriver 1st. :D

Same way as the 1.3?

Un crimp the nuts on the flanges then use a rattlegun to get them off, you will need a bar with a couple of holes in it and some bolts (or a vice but i've done it and it's a PITA) to hold the flange so it doesn't turn.

Then if they are stuck on you can use a gear puller to remove them, I had a gear puller, but I didn't need it for the flanges, they came straight off no trouble!

EDIT: Beaten!

Ok I thought that might be a go.

Is there anything else I need to change?

Does the speedo cable match up?

Do I need to change all 3 flanges?

The flange sizes and the internal gears.

I am in the process of doing this. getting rid of my 1 litre and upgrading my transfer gears.

when i pull out my flanges and try to put them on the 1.3 litre transfer case they are too small! anyone else encounter the same issue?

im thinking the next best move is to get a jackshaft of a 1.3 litre and replace those spinning things.

The flange off a 1300 transfer will bolt directly to a late 1 litre (switch type) transfer case as they have the same size splined shaft. This allows you to use your 1300 drive shafts.

The flange off a 1300 will not bolt to an early (non switch type) 1 litre transfer case because the early transfer has a smaller splined input shaft and smaller splined front output shaft, the rear output is the same size on all of them.

You usually over come this with either an adapter or by using a hybrid uni and drive shaft flange made up of a 1300 shaft a 1 litre flange, two 1300 uni cups, and 2 x 1litre uni cups

Rattle gun didn't work, I don't think the compressor was getting enough pressure to get any real kick out of the gun...

Highway-Star suggested using a really long breaker bar (He said 3m)....maybe I'll try that

Yeah, get a breaker bar and a pole if you can. Vice it and go nuts. I soaked mine in wd overnight and then another hour the next day. Came off alright.

How do I tell the difference between a 1l and 1.3l transfer case

Instead of making a new thread i did a search and came accross this

Just wondering (apart from the flanges), is there any other way to make sure you have a 1L transfer case?!
Does anyone know what is the difference between the internal gears of the 1L and the 1.3L transfer?!
Any external differences.....switches?!

Reason im asking is that i've been trying to sell the 1L case and want to make sure the person buying it is getting a proper 1L case
I had to swap the flanges from the 95' Maruti ute (assuming it's a 1L case) and put them onto the 1.3L TC that has the 4.9s from my tintop and the flange holes from the ute were smaller (i didn't want to change the tail shafts/jack shafts as they have new uni joints put into them)
I trust the bloke i brought the car off but i just want to make sure

I've been looking to get 5.14s for the ute and I need to use one gear from the 1.3L case just like i had to do for 4.9s
If i can use the "gear" from the 1L case to fit 5.14s i may just keep it and get the gears instead of selling the case

Any advice would be appreciated

Turn the input shaft and count the rotations of the back output. 1 liter will have less rotations of input to achieve the same number as 1.3's rear output.

Thanks sogone.....if/when i take them both out again i'll have a look but currently they're both in the cars
I thought maybe they have some different markings/possibly a different switch or an extra something on the casing

Can still do in the car. Just drop rear tail shaft.

1.0lt will have MORE rotations. But you'd have to have very good eyes to spot the difference in high range.

1.0lt Hi 1.580 Lo 2.511
1.3lt Hi 1.409 Lo 2.268

Put the transfer case in LOW range. Put chalk, paint or scribe marks on the Input and Output flanges at the 12 o'clock positions. Turn the OUTPUT flange ONE complete turn so the mark is back at the 12 o'clock position.

If the INPUT flange mark is at the 6 o'clock position (2 1/2 times), it's a 1.0lt ratio. If the mark is at either 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock (depends if you turn the flange 2 1/4 turns clockwise or anti-clockwise), then it's a 1.3lt.

Yeah I know it does. But I mentioned going off the front. Not the back. Should have explained it better using low and going off the rear

The 1lt will need to turn the INPUT at 1580rpm to make the OUTPUT turn 1000rpm.
The 1.3 will need to turn the INPUT 1409rpm. Completely the opposite to what you said.

Ha. I know where I went wrong. Confused the polarity. I had it in my head that if you turned the input 1 turn then you'd get 1.58 at the output.
