are you going to repack the cv's too?
reading the "king pin removal" one... is it possible to over pack a cv with grease?

Yes, Cv's will get checked and everything repacked with grease. They should still be ok as I haven't done much hardcore 4wding.
In the manual they are called "Barfield Joints" but it doesnt specify how much grease to pack them with.
I am thinking pack with grease, give it a twirl and reinstall.
Still waiting on the tool. C'mon FedEx.

Another question:
The manual says to uncaulk and recaulk the locknut. What is the caulking specifically? Silicone, Sikaflex, polybisulfide?

it's the unbending and rebending of the nut that holds the bearings together
go back to... http://www.bigjimny.com/images/document ... arings.pdf
scroll down and look at the pic of the wheel nut just above the first pic of the special tool. the text in-between the two photo's tells you what the caulk crap is all about. he just down't use the term caulk...
haha i would copy and paste but the page wont let me....

You're a champ. Completely different use of the word altogether!
I would have had it apart looking for some goop and scratching my head as to what they were on about.
All makes sense now.
Got the tool finally. Looks like I'll be doing it on Monday.

I got the wheel bearings and king pins done on Monday. Messy job, plenty of rust sand and grimy grease in there.
Took plenty of photos pulling it apart and the first part putting it together but got a bit impatient towards the end of the day and the photo rate dropped off.
The bit that held me up was a seized sleeve in one brake caliper.
It took me a couple of hours to get it free again
The king pins tightened up nicely and the steering is awesome now. What felt like shuddery suspension/steering before is now nice and smooth. The car handles sooo much better. I put one shim under each pin so if it loosens up again I can remove the shim to lower/tighten the pins on the bearings.
Also got the timing belt done yesterday and did a thermofan conversion. Wanted to change the waterpump as well but they had sent me the wrong style. Engine is heaps quieter and more responsive without the fan.
