im thinking of running a coolant cleaner/ flush thing through the radiator to give it a clean. ive heard that some can block up? is that true? is there a decent brand to get then? thanks.

This is what i used Tectaloy Mukowt Radiator Flush - 500ml it does about 10l so more than enough only about $8.00 from supercheap. Drain your system add the stuff with fresh water go for a 20min run let cool down drain, then flush with fresh water twice then add new coolant. Dont know how it would clog the coolant system its just a alkaline solution.

the stuff that seals leaks can block up. but not a flush.

they arent cleaners, they are designed to neutralise the remaining dregs of coolant in the system.

Nothing beats pulling the water housings off and a good high pressure flush and rodding of the radiator

I turn the garden hose on high and stick it in the bottom radiator hose, ie. Reverse flush. Keep pumping water into it until the water that comes through the top hose is clear.

I always use demineralised water to refill / premix the coolant.

Just get a new thermostat when it is out put a hose in and flush it until water comes out clean from the engine, then put the hose in from the other way and repeat. Take your radiator to a shop and get them to rod it or if you have some serious solder sticks and an oxy take off the top tank apply water through the bottom and stick a rod down all the cores. Solder it back together and put it back in with some fresh coolant and a new thermostat and you will be good for another 2 years or if you are like me and anal on servicing then another year.

Disconnect the top and bottom rad hose and back flush it from the bottom with 120 psi:) and watch all sorts of junk come out. Then do the same thing to the block

Like Royce and Sando said the only way to get the crud out of ALL the cores is to take off the top tank and rod it out , put whatever potion in it you like, and flush all day, just because water comes out the other end doesn't mean half the cores aren't blocked.
