G'day,

Currently I am looking at a what I think is a LJ81. It is an 82 model it has the tray back however it doesn't have the stock engine or gearbox so that's about all I know. I just wanted to find out how hard it is to get spares or how hard it is to mod more recent sierra parts to suit?

Also what about getting brake shoes and things like that?

you can buy all the brake parts new from Places like suzistore. Bearings, seals,gaskets etc are all available new aswell.

All mechanical parts are pretty easy due to interchangability, what engine is in it

It's got a corolla motor so parts for that should be easy but I'm not sure how the 5 speed gearbox would be set up with that conversion.

It will have a corolla gearbox and a very very short jackshaft to the transfer case. This was a common conversion back in those days, same cable clutch set up

mine has a 13k corolla engine and 4 speed manwell gear box,
bolted straight to the tcase, looks abit dodgy in my opinion, but seems to be working,

So you can use suspension kits off sierra's?

i have been looking for a drivers door for about 3 months,

leaf springs/shackles/bushes are the same as sierra. There are heaps of parts for these floating around on your side of the country.

smiffkid you'll probably have to get one from over east.

So the doors on sierra's are not the same? they look it
Maybe it isn't an lj then I didn't notice the ridges on the side of the doors?

Yeah it is sounding like a 1 litre sierra if it has no door ridges, there are very few 1982 LJ's, by that time Sierra's were being sold. I wold be interested to see how the gearbox is mounted to the transfer, that is highly unusual, I think you will find either a very short jackshaft, a set of back to back unis or a spiggot welded t a flange.

Nah thats not it... Handle on the door is in the wrong spot... And I remember that the bonnet latch was the same as my brothers sierra. So what does that mean it is? Because it has the tray and LWB.

yeah, theres quite a few around.

good ones are hard to come by though.

lots of people love their long wheel bases.

yeap, anything thats not related to it being a LWB generally is the same,
