my problem is my petrol guage wont work i did what it said in the link, when i say it doesnt work..i mean its not correct. right now with a full tank it says half on the dash.
i have a spare fuel sender unit i put in that works perfect but still doesnt read right....
The probability is you have a bad connection somewhere - the tank not properly grounded, a corroded connection between the gauge and the sender - that sort of stuff.
Disconnect the wire from the tank sender and ground it - do you get a full tank indication now? If not - check the wiring.

I had the same problem and it was the earth, all I did was run a bit of wire from a bolt on the chassis and put it under one of the bolts that holds the sender in the tank. Fixed straight away.
Oh and that's the second thing I tried, first was testing it while the tank was out but that was only because the tank was out!
