ok so i want to run rears up front but i don't really want to modify spring purches etc i will have 2 inch extended shackles in.... now i know some brands are slighty longer than others and this is why i was wondering wat springs are best to use for this application any help is greatly appricated

If you don't modify spring mounting points you are not going to get this to work, your shackle angle will be no good.

I know you are thinking longer schackles but think of this, even if you double the length of a standard 75mm shackle to 150mm if you set it up with a nice shackle angle the hole in the end of that longer 150mm shackle will only be about 30mm further forward than in the 75mm standard shackle.

The mounts on the chassis for the rear springs are welded to the chassis 75mm further apart than the mounts for the front, because a rear spring is usually around 1000mm long which is around 75mm longer than a front spring.

On top of this you alter the caster angle of the steering which upsets handing and you move the steering arms dangerously close which can cause them to bind.

No not really, because to get the formula correct the custom spring would need to be 920mm-940mm long....that's the lenght of a standard front spring so you have gained nothing.

Some people use other makes and some people use Suzuki carry springs which are a compromise because at 950mm they are half way between a Sierra front an a Sierra rear.

There are ways around it ashzook94, but too much to type, pm me your number and I will give you thedrum on a simple solution.

And then there are multiple types of carry van springs which are different. The issues I have with Carry van springs is they are fitted to the vans with a large rubber insulating block around the springs. This seems to promote rusting and pitting, and they get a bit snap happy in this area if the rusting and pitting is notable.

Long shackles are yuck. The story with them for me went something like this:
- Standard Suspension..... want more travel
- 2" lifted suspension...... front springs keep bending, I know I'll do a RUF
- Fit dodgey RUF with dodgey shackles..... wow this is awesome I have more travel, as If you wouldn't do this mod.
- Wheel dodgey RUFed car for a while....... Bloody long shackles, am fed up with hitting them on things and bending springs
- Do a RUF with standard shackles and moved chassis brackets..... Wow, didn't realise just how shithouse my car handled with the dodgey shackles fitted, now my car doesn't want to kill me afterall; and hasn't lost any travel


I really really can not recommend enough just how good doing it properly is! Also you can get it engineered if done right, you cannot get longer shackles engineered.

i did mine the dodgey way using westralia springs. the rear main was shorter than a stock rear so i put it in the front with 2 inch extended shackles all round.
i was very happy with the out come, didn't notice much change in handling at all and the shackles didn't seem to get in the way at all.

I'm getting customs made up cos lovells stuffed my springs up, so it's free.
Little bit longer, the correct height and the centre bolt in a different spot.
