hey guys just wondering how to get those 2 studs out of the gearbox... u know the ones that you replace with the countersunk screws.

looking forward to replies im stuck lol

also is that bracket that goes from the intake to the block nessesary... i had to remove it to fit the 1.3 engine mount (im using a baleno g16b)

I just used multigrips to get mine out not sure bout that bracket I took mine off too

put 2 nuts on the thread and lock them together by twisting them in opposite directions. this will allow you to remove or alternatively get a stud remover from repco

unless you want a busted intake I'd be keeping it of making another less intrusive one..

X2. The manifold will crack without the brace. Seen it happen many times. Happens to GTI motors too.

ok cheers guys. il have a look for a stud remover. ive already tried using multis but no success. and il have a go at making something up to support the intake

Wind a nut onto the stud. Then wind a second nut on and tighten against the first nut. Try to line the edges of the nuts up so that a socket can slide over both nuts. Then use a breaker bar to undo. Might work, but the two nuts will have to be VERY tight against one and another.

il give that a go tomoz before i go out and buy that tool. i im not worried if it doesnt work. more tools in the shed is always a good idea

nup no luck using the nuts to try and get the studs out. i ended up stipping the threads out of the nuts :0

might try making some flat spots on the stud with an angle grinder. then use a shifter to get them out.

barppp, will more than likely either round off again or snap the stud.. Neither are good outcomes.

If you going to shep it up. at least use a pair of vice grips, or even better some footprints. some rost off ice sprayed on the stud or similar will help too.

i would weld a nut on but ive got no welding gear. gonna go buy some vice grips tomorrow give that a shot. i have a blow torch would it be safe to heat it up then give it a try?

use a punch and smack it a few times with the hammer and use inox/wd40 and try to drive the thread in a tiny bit then undo it.

one option - grind the thread down to a flat on each side.. only a tiny bit!!!

and a good pair of vise grips with clean sharp jaws - ive seen a LOT that have been rounded and they make the job worse... -

While applying pressure to undo... smack the end with a hammer... it should dislodge any crud.

Heat gun will work as well... apply the heat around the stud hole... not the stud... - it'll melt the loctite thats in there which should make it easier to get out.

I tried the old two nut trick too, and with minimum effort stripped the threads.

Welding a small breaker bar onto it made it very easy.

ok so ive tried everything except for welding now and no success. this is so annoying. got a mate coming around on the weekend to weld something to the studs the same way as stockman did
