What models/ years had 5.12 ratio's?
Just wondering, because i have my diff getting set up now at the diff guy's place and my yoke and the one of the GV steel diff i have wont slide onto the pinion spline.
I had to source another pinion gear because mine had a bit of a tooth missing.
The splines on the diff yokes i have look to be slightly deeper than whats on the pinion spline.
I wouldve thought all 5.12 splines would have the same profile?

Im pretty sure all the 1.6 manuals had 5.12

When my alloy diff was pulled apart, the pinion gear had a bit of tooth missing so i got another 5.12 ring and pinion from b4t and today the diff guy rang and said that the diff yoke wont slide on the pinion because they have a slighty different spline. He asked if i could bring the yoke round that was off the gv steely to see if that fitted.
But it doesnt, its exactly the same as the one from my alloy diff.
Both of those yokes slide on to my original chipped tooth pinion, the pinion i now have seems to have a slightly flatter top to the splines.
Its hard to explain, but they aint the same.
I'm just trying to work out when, if, and why they wouldve changed spline profile on the 5.12's

oh yeah and mine is a 93 1.6.

is he swapping both the crown wheel and pinion? when i had my alloy housed 5.12's swapped into a gv steel diff, i never had a problem

Yes, but they are'nt from my diff's and i dont have the yoke that was with that as i bought just the gears.
i might have to just buy new ones and be done with it.
I'm not buying another diff, and taking a lucky dip.

My steel diff had 4:3 ratio.
It's yoke would not fit my 5:12.
I had a good yoke on my 5:12 so I used that.

The guy who bought my 4:3 GV gears didnt want the yoke, so happy to post to you, if it helps

well I may be using wrong terminology,
but to me its the bit that slides onto diff, and bolts to the tail shaft.
I have noticed differing splines, I just thought it was a gv thing,

My steel diff had the same ratio aswell but that yoke wont go on either, it does go on my original pinion 5.12's that came out. But they wont go on this other 5.12 pinion. Its got me stuffed.

the gv one I have won't go onto my 5:12's.
So is possible the gv's dont all have same splines.

Chop's I'll go for a walk down to the back of the workshop tomorrow & have a search under "D" for diff's, still got a heap here.... just not sure what i've got.

Joe, when the tailshaft is off there is the big nut under there, once that is nut is undone that part slides off of the the pinion.
Its like the yokes that pull out the transfer and gearbox end of the tailshafts but its just bolted on instead of being a sliding yoke like the others.

Well, the steel diff i got has the 4.3's and that yoke slides on my original 5.12's. so i'd say no
But then the my yoke from the alloy and the steely wont go on the other 5.12's so yes

No, it's the Pinion Flange they're talking about not fitting the splines on the shaft of the pinion gear.

The Yoke is the bit that has the holes for the Uni-Joint on the ends of the driveshaft. On some vehicles, the Yoke and Pinion Flange are one item, and the term is often used interchangably by Diff Shops.
