iv got a new speedo cable to go in my 92 sierra and im having a little trouble removing the speedo cluster (whole thing) from the dash any tips to getting it out?

and what is the best way to get the new speedo cable in? would a possible idea be tape the ends together so when i pull the old one out from under the dash it pulls the new one through?

cheers

Remove your steering wheel, the cap for the horn pulls off disconect the signal wire get a socket onto the nut that holds the wheel on. You can then try and lever the wheel off, if its stuck use a steering wheel/ bearing puller.

then its just a couple bolts to get the instrument cluster out, as you pull it out you might need to undo the plugs in the back of it.

As you said tape the end of the new cable onto the end of the old one and gently pull it through.

i just pulled the cluster out far enough to guide the cable into its home.
i have big hands and there was still enough room with the steering wheel left on.

My speedo cable went behind my heater box and i thought a gentle pull would get it through, it stretched the spring and i no longer have a speedo.

is that normal?

you can reach up and unplug it from behind, then follow the noew one through, its stiff enough to jsut poke it along

otherwise drop the column so the cluster clears the hazard switch

As Royce said, undo the two bolts and drop the column otherwise the cluster gets jammed behind the hazard light switch.

Shoot I always seem to manage to get the cluster out and my hands back there. My steering wheel is on the opposite side, but getting behind the cluster poses the same problems. They like to foul on the hazard switch. Just undo the four bolts, and gently pull the cluster forward, see what you can manage. if you can;t get it then drop the column.
