Hey guys, So my 2" springs have finally sagged to the point of replacement. I have had quite a look around and am at a cross road.

I was set on the Calmini 3" springs however from what I read there are far less expensive alternate options.

I like the idea of the half RUF (I know in theory its still actually an RUF but to me Half RUF doesn't involve welding or extending the chasis) mainly for the flex and stability (however stupid instead of reciving the 2.5-3" extended Ranchos I later discovered they were 3.5-4" ranchos so they dont have much travel in them) and the RUF doesnt seem to give much of a lift. does it?

So I was looking at the longer EFS 2" springs along with the TSOR extended shackles to give me enough lift to use my shocks and to run the 31 Khumos.

How ever the other option of spua seem to be an easy way to achieve maximun lift for little cost as well as giving my shocks the right amount of room to move and rebound..

So hat I'me after is the pros and cons of you guys who have ACTUALLY run these in your zooks. Ive read all the theory and hearsay but Practical knowledge (in my experience) is more beneficial then theory

Thanks in advance guys. Ron

sagged springs SPOA is great, but is a lot more work than doing even a full RUF and guard chop.

I liked the idea of it because it involves little welding and I cant weld or cut very well at all  so it would mean getting it all done at a shop and with teh SPOA needing welded perches I would pick up a set of wt diffs and get it done at a shop which would still keep me on the road untill i have a weekend to do it all which i need to be able to do as its my DD :)

you can do SPOA in WA - you can do it anywhere in australia, but it has to be engineered to be road legal whatever state you're in.

SPOA has more cons than RUF though... spoa you need anti-wrap and shock hoops front and rear, brake lines etc etc.

From what I read, I hope I'm remembering right and dont look stupid lol isnt a half Ruf rear springs with the rear mount holes redrilled and ext shackels?

And Legally I cant do a spoa however i dissagree with this in the rebel sencs of, If Brand new hiluxs can run it standard why cant any leaf sprung 4x4 run it?

Don't apply logic. QLD transport don't subscribe to that methodology

HILUX is standard like that from the factory, that's how they get away with it. :?

I understand they they run it from factory therefor its ok. but my point is, how is deemed to be ok? & how is it any different to running it after market? its the exact same setup so how is one way safer then the other.. :S

the whole 'because we say' and 'its ok in this state but not that state, yet we're the same country' policy that DOT seems to have confuses me..

How is it 1/2 tho, you are fitting/dodgeing REAR spring's UP FRONT......

So, how is it a 1/2 RUF???

you only fit one rear spring so it's 1/2 RUF.

Because everything I've read says that to do a 'full ruf' means you have to cut the front (rear spring perch) and flip it around and extend the chasis 30-40mm..

To me its still 'rear springs up front' but others have been told off for calling it that hence the reason i called it a 'half ruf' with the quotations..

I wouldnt be using the rear springs i have now as they are flat and the rear right is near reversed arched.

Hilux are wider

Hilux have gone through the engineering necessary to show that their setup is safe and meets the Transport standards.

i was the last one to get through on the old legislation... it can still be done its just a bit harder now.

if youre serious about doing it, consult an engineer and he can tell you whats possible to get registered.

SPOA + QLD = FAIL, engineer or not.

Go and setup mr_ron's motor car company, design a car, make it springover, prove to DOTARS it complies to all applicable ADR's by wrecking a few, testing a few and jumping through a lot of hoops, then you can sell mr_ron's super awesome spring over 4wd awesome to the market and you will no doubt be crowned a hero

dont worry, when the NCOP gets cracking in all states nobody will be allowed to do it, but 235/75 will be legal on a Vitara

I was helpful, it is ok for a car company to do it, cause they have just 1 or 2 more hoops to jump through to prove its ok though

haha Im not arguing teh fact that its not legal Royce. And I am no way pretending to now more then Dot, as I said it just confuses me how they decide on there rullings and such.

I'm guessing its for safety and in my belief taht its ok for toyota to do it because as youve said they they've jumped through hoops and paid out big $$ but in my simpleton eyes, Its the same setup on a larger heavier car with more power and its deemed ok..

I was just curious as to which setup people have used and results they have found is all :S

Same story in SA "Relocating a leaf spring on the opposite side of an axle to that of the vehicle manufacturer"

mr_ron, I am running 2inch EFS, 2inch body and 2inch shackels. The springs are 3 leafs all around and well sagged. With 31's if barley scrubbed.. I think if you were to run 31's with out the body lift, and your springs had enough flex in them you would only need minor guard bashing and some small bumpstop extenstions. Im saying that because the extended shackels are going to 'limit' the amount of flex you will get.
