I've had a bit of a search around looking for a discustion on putting a cv in my tail shaft instead of the two double cardinal joints I currently run to go with my lux diffs the joints are warring out and I need something that will be easer to replace in the future cause I don't have the set up to replace a double cardinal joint uni set and my mechanic mate didn't want to do it

You can use a late model toyota 4 runner shaft. single u-joint. They have 42 degrees of working angle and will work for a compound angle on the driveshafts.

You need to have the pinion and the transfer case flanges parallel to use them though.

A single u-joint on each end is capable of a compound angle as long as it has enough working travel at the joint.

CV joints on one end do not have enough angle, and less than most single joints. They do seem to work ok in the front of sierra's though.

pretty sure some of the tuff truck type 4wd's are using a 100 series land cruiser IFS CV as a "uni joint" on the transfer case end.

that thing was a work of art, reckon you could have eaten a meal off any part of it!!!

mart was running a 1.3 sierra CV's in the tail shaft ends.

It's a real bummer he had to sell it. If I built something like that it would be my daily for life lol.

Marts rig is where I got the idea from but is there any real advantage of running one like that ?

And also what uses those uni joints that bolt in rather then press in. I think it's a jeep thing I'm probably no where the mark

You mean like the Spicer uj's with the bolt on straps? Most of the big American 4wd's seem to use them
